you can use .44 Marlin brass to make you own 410 shotgun slugs . a light load of 2400 and a cast bullet would work
Re: Thoughts on loading .410 slug
Everything I've read about the .444 Marlin case intends it to be loaded like a shotgun shell with a wad.mowdy wrote:you can use .44 Marlin brass to make you own 410 shotgun slugs . a light load of 2400 and a cast bullet would work
I've also read that standard cast bullets aren't stable from a smoothbore but potentially one of the front heavy styles of shotgun slug could work.

Moderated 410 with slugs is very effective against marauding Roe deer in one's garden. Or so a village friend tells me.( They hop over his fence & eat his fruit off the trees)

Re: Thoughts on loading .410 slug
I helped a friend load some 410 slug a few years ago.
He had bucket loads of fired cases.
I bored out an old Lee 45acp sizing die to resize them on a press.
Made up decapping rod to fit a Lee universal decapping die.
You can use this slug:

Or you can use a 41mag semi wadcutter glued into a suitable plastic wad.
That is with nose into the wad.
You are in effect firing a bullet but the wrong way round.
Biggest problem is attaching the plastic wad to a lead bullet!
A 41 bullet is also heavier than a proper 410 slug.

If. 410 cases can be resized with .45ACP dies can they be tapered crimped in the same way?

You cant taper crimp plastic hulls.38Super wrote:If. 410 cases can be resized with .45ACP dies can they be tapered crimped in the same way?
The ones we made were roll crimped.
You can reuse the cases by trimming them then adjusting the wad column.
It did occur to me that if you used a brass case ,such as 303, whether you could load a bullet into it conventionally.
