More Gun Thefts .
Details at the moment are a bit unclear .
But it seems a shotgun shooter was followed home and on his arrival was threatened by at least
two men , one armed with an chain saw that was active .
They took his shotgun/s and drove off .
The robbery took place close to the Merseyside / Greater Manchester border .

How much do you want to bet the media will tell us how many legally held guns there are in the area as part of their report...

One, or a few, less now.
OOI, if he'd been able to load one, where would he stand, legally, with using it? At first glance it does seem like reasonable and proportionate force to use against someone armed with an active chainsaw in order to prevent a serious crime.

His defence is; it was what he thought at the time to be the minimum force necessary to stop them hurting him.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Minimum is not a word used in instances of self defence. "Reasonable" and "necessary" are the key. Self defence law mainly revolves around Common Law, s3 Criminal Law Act 1967 and s76 Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008. There is also a plethora of case law that covers no need to retreat and preemptive self defence is lawful.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

You never want to get into degrees of force like that - it's inviting grief from the prosecution and confuses juries were it to go that far. As Sim says 'reasonable' and 'necessary'.Mattnall wrote:His defence is; it was what he thought at the time to be the minimum force necessary to stop them hurting him.
A chainsaw? Bloody nasty but an unreliable weapon if my old beater is anything to go by - much cursing and sweatiness to get the bugger going from cold.

Re: More Gun Thefts .
I assume that "a chain saw that was active" means they'd got it started - probably a nice new one they'd nicked. Or a decent battery one - I wouldn't want to argue.
But in the realms of fantasy: "You want my shotgun? It's an AA-12 - let me demonstrate it for you..."

During my days as a young man on the estate you weren't allowed to use a chain saw if you had steel toe-capped boots on on case you blunted the chain.
