Hearing protection MSA or Peltor ?
Due to recent damage to my ears i have now started wearing on ear protection for foxing etc, currently using the Impact models but want to get something better so have narrowed it down to either MSA or peltors
(msa sordin supreme pro x or 3M Peltor ComTac XPI)
Any guys on here have first hand use of either or any other recommendations ?

MSA Sordins for me - with the Gel inserts.
Comfortable even when wearing for 8 hours straight over glasses.
Cannot talk for the 3m peltors as I went straight with the MSA. Expensive but a good investment.
The Electronics in mine started crackling and turning to white noise after 3 years or so - MSA Replaced and repaired the internal circuit boards with no hassle at all. Great customer service. Recommended.

I once saw a Gurkah at Bisley using 9mm rounds as earplugs.

Know nothing about Peltor, use MSA Sordins.
We went shooting yesterday and David had taken two sets of cans with him, his Sordins and a pair of generic nothing to write home about ordinary cans.
No idea why he didn't bring my Sordins.
Anyway, just horrible to wear those generic ones.

Another vote here for the MSA Sordins with the optional Gel insertsTattooedGun wrote:MSA Sordins for me - with the Gel inserts.
Re: Hearing protection MSA or Peltor ?
I've both and I prefer MSA Sordins as they are slimer re touching the rifle stock but my son prefers Peltors. Most ranges are likely to have both on any one shoot so it would be good if you could try them to see for yourself. The gel inserts are a great upgrade for the Sordins. And the Pro X are apparently the waterproof ones but still need the ear gels removed and the foam taken off if they get wet.

MSA Sordins every time.
When my club had a covered firing point installed, my generic ear defenders couldn't cope with the increased sound levels.
I was advised to purchase some MSA ear defenders and found they damped down the increased noise to a comfortable level.
Plus, the sound quality is superb.

Re: Hearing protection MSA or Peltor ?
I have also switched to MSA Sordins after killing 4 pairs of Howard Leight ear defenders in the rain. I have to say though the HL's were 100% more comfortable for me to wear for long periods. I must have a funny shaped head/ear position as the MSA's get very uncomfortable after 4hrs or so and I find myself having to reposition them several times to stop them giving me a headache. (And yes they have the gel inserts too). Great quality, protection and sound though.
Have never tried the top end Peltors but I find their passive defenders very comfortable to wear, but they're a completely different beast.

Re: Hearing protection MSA or Peltor ?
We’re all different. Try them both.I found that the Peltors interfered with my stock.
I have 2 pairs of MSA Supreme Pro X, both with gel pads. They’re good, but:
- One pair, if not both, has a rattle inside (loose battery box, or rattling battery), which is annoying when you walk with them on.
- During shooting I find they move on my head more than others, so I occasionally have to reposition them.
- The exposed cables on my primary pair have worn though exposing the inner cores.
- Sometimes they don’t seal very well. Despite the gels I sometimes get a slight ringing after a neighbouring shot. I usually wear (slim) shooting glasses, but I’ve had the issue without any glasses.
- I think I’ve seen the Sordins with other branding at a lower price. Shop around.
