Size of BP containers?
Hi Gents, simple question... what are the dimentions of a "normal" 500g container of BP..?
My FAC renewal is going through the system, and I've added a M/L revolver, and my Explosives licence application went in with the renewal paperwork.
I'm going to make a 4 compartment storage box for the black powder, (they've said I can hold 2kg) but I need to know how big each compartment should be... I know it needs to be 30% taller than the container... but 30% of what...?
All advice appreciated.
Daryll.

Re: Size of BP containers?
Depends on the type BP you are going to buy.
I buy Swiss in 2 2/10ths lb containers.
You are allowed up to 15kgs of all propellants where have they said you can only have 4lbs odd?

Having just renewed my explosives licence I was told the BP allowance is governed by your ability to store it.

Obviously, but the maximum still applies. Unless you apply for more, meet the HSE criteria and pay the license fee.

Have you seen this?

I used these plans and built a box. It was inspected and passed.

As I've only asked for 1 M/L revolver, 2 kg of black powder seems plenty...dromia wrote:Depends on the type BP you are going to buy.

Thanks Glevum... I'll use that as a basis and reduce the capacity.glevum wrote:Have you seen this?

Re: Size of BP containers?
A 1kg tub of Swiss Black Powder stands 26.5cm high. 30% overhead would require you to add 7.95cm (let's say 8cm shall we?) So 34.5cm internal height compartment will suffice. I've not come across any tubs taller than Swiss

Re: Size of BP containers?
Thanks Penguino, thats a good guide, although one question... don't the regulations say that the powder containers shouldn't hold more than 550g..?
Re: Size of BP containers?
I would follow the plans if I were you.
You might be able to increase your BP holding in the future...
I keep my other powder in the box as well
