Re: A Max's now categorised as expanding ammunition
Flat point expanding bullets are OK in guns with tubular magazines as it prevents the possibility of explosions in the tube. See para 3.16 of the HO guidance to police 2002, if memory serves me right.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

tikkathreebarrels I'm curious why you used A-Max for stalking. Was it because you were under the impression that it was a dual purpose bullet perhaps because of previous information in Hornady manuals, or did you think that it was classed as an expanding bullet?
Re: A Max's now categorised as expanding ammunition
Just in case you guys cause a storm with all your questions to the organisations I am going to buy a couple 1000 of 155g A MAX bullits as soon as the dealers open on Tuesday and hide them under the stairs.

Re: A Max's now categorised as expanding ammunition
The simple solution is to repeal the legislation that outlawed expanding ammunition, after all it serves no useful purpose and only impedes the lawful shooters in the enjoyment of their sport. I don't see expanding bullets as being anymore dangerous than those classified as non expanding, in fact quite the opposite.
Re: A Max's now categorised as expanding ammunition
I had read articles in American magazines which implied a dual use.Chapuis wrote:tikkathreebarrels I'm curious why you used A-Max for stalking. Understandable given the previous information given out by Hornady.

From the latter, in bold, I have to say that in UK terms, deer above roe would be construed as medium and large game. So, Hornady would appear to be touting AMax for varmints and small game.Sandgroper wrote:

Re: A Max's now categorised as expanding ammunition
Previously Hornady have stated to me in an email that A-Max were not intended to expand and had not been tested as such.
It now seems that there may have been some sort of re-design or are they just trying to be all things to all men?
There seems to be a lot of contradictory marketing hype which is only confusing the issue with regard to possession and use in the U.K.
The way that I see it now is that there is no difference between A-Max and V-Max???? If so why are they marketing the same product differently?????
