BSA Martini MkII scope mount

#1 Post by Dave 101 »

Hi

A little project that I have been working on , I have made a scope mount for the MkII so I can put a modern scope on it . I know there is a guy in the US who makes a very good mount but the concept isnt to difficult to achieve maybe a little cruder but at a cost of less than £10.00 its worth a go .
First off remove the original PH apperture sights and retain the screws , as the Martini has a flat side all that is required is a section of angle aluminium which I already had , shape this to the required length to fit a peice of Weaver rail purchased from eblag , £6.oo , which came with fixing screws . Holes need to be drilled for the fixing of the bracket to the side wall of the action to marry up with the original fixing holes , use the original screws and a small washer . Then drill and tap the top of the mount to fix the Weaver rail .

The mount in an unfinished state ready for a test run

After testing last week I cleaned it all up and applied some grey primer followed by stone effect spray paint to give it a mottled surface with a couple of coats of matt black

Not to bad for the price , off to the range latter and give it a try .

Very good indeed, elegantly simple and effective. :good:

I only wish I had the skills to do work such as that.

Brilliant job Dave. I do like projects like this, you cannot beat heading out to the shed with an idea and coming back with a finished and functional item made with the most basic of tools. :goodjob:

What is the thickness of the angle you used?

Hi

A selection of targets from this morning all 5 shot groups at 25yds the small card in the middle was the rezero the centre group with the 2 flyers , using batch weighed RWS Geco , the large target top left was using RWS Target ,

So performance wise it works well for me .
I will have to have a go at making a better fore end to stop it rolling on the front bag .

Dave the angle is just a knats over 1/8" .

Were the shots with the rifle rested Dave? Earlier this year my son gave me some off cuts of 2.25mm 75x35mm ish angle. Brilliant stuff that is getting used for all sorts of little projects and even as soft jaws for a vice. :good:

I'm getting one of these BSAs after my variation comes through and I want to scope it up for Benchrest. Good job, I'll bookmark this. Keep us posted of other developments with your BSA.
