Oops! -Take Care

#1 Post by John25 »

As a member of the UKPSA I shoot my section one shotguns regularly.

The condition on my certificate says "The firearms and ammunition on this certificate shall be used for target shooting blah, blah.

After discussions at a sporing clay shoot (shooting my Sect. 2 over and under); I emailed my local FEO just to check that,if I used my section one for clay target shooting. (The PC version of clay pigeon shooting) would I be within the conditions of the certificate?

Very quickly came back the answer - NO! Send in your cert. and we'll change it. They even apologised that due to staff shortage it could take up to two weeks - I can live with that.

Certificate despatched for variation. Narrow escape or what?

Good reason being target practice.

My s1 Xtrema 2 condition also includes..."It may also be used for clay pigeon shooting"

Other conds include bird, vermin and fox and for zeroing on ranges...

Narrow escape indeed John, I know it is just a formality but it is the sort of thing that is easily over looked.

I've seen guidance issued by the FELWG saying that FLD's should add the clay pigeon condition automatically but i'm yet to hear of it happening :cool2:

If you've got the vermin control condition make sure its the open one as thats supposed to be added automatically too :good:

I know it's meant to be automatic and I do know at least one person who got it automatically. I had to ask for it and justify it.

Justification wasn't difficult. I can never hit those slow pop up clays you occasionally get on PSG shoots. Usually done with a simple pivot made out of 4"x2" and a bungie cord. The clay does a lazy rise to about 8 feet, hovers, then drops. I always shoot over the top of the bloody things.

I expect that's where I'm going wrong. Took my Benelli M1 and my Mossberg 500 clay shooting, hardly hit a thing with either them and haven't worked up the nerve to do it again. Maybe try again this weekend but the over and under looks awfully tempting. I can actually hit more than 50% with that!

Sadly the let rip solution is frowned upon at my local clay ground, as is loading more than two rounds.

I posted my Certificate off to Surrey Firearms Dapartment on Tuesday.

The kind lady had told me that there might be a delay of at least two weeks because of staff shortages.

My certificate arrived back this morning, duly varied to include clay pigeon shooting with my section one shotguns.

Can't fault that, what splendid service.

Thank you Surrey.

:good:
