I don't like to see wolves shot, but with the unpopularity of fur and the decline in trapping, wolf and coyote numbers are booming across Canada. When farmers try to rear livestock and wolves want to eat, conflict is inevitable.
Never take good advice, if you think you know better.

Re: He's a big bugger!
Shame to see a magnificent animal like that shot. I am really torn between my respect for the plight of farmers/ranchers and my desire to see the wolf thrive. I just don't know how to resolve this. I will say though, that no way in hell would I shoot a wolf except to save a human life (which is highly unlikely - as genuine accounts of wolf attacks on humans are practically non-existent).

Snap. I lived down the road from the supposed site of the killing of England’s last wolf and it always made me sad.
They turned it into a pub of course, the bleeding wolf.
We may see them back in Scotland one day.
They’ll need something to kill off the pine martens they’re going to introduce to kill off the squirrels.

And they (Martens) can tell the difference between red and grey squirrels HOW exactly? What could possibly go wrong?

Yep, that's some size of wolf but they were there before the sheep farmers so a little respect for them and their habitat is called for. They're just doing what they do.
As for letting them loose in Scotland - why not?

This is interesting:

Re: He's a big bugger!
I say release them in the Sturgeon woman's house. Oh wait, she'd probably poison the wolves. That would be cruel.
Re: He's a big bugger!
Our Island is too small and crowded to have wolves roaming free and even with the setting up of so-called secure sanctuaries, it would only be a matter of time before some of them escaped. Look at the situation with the introduction of hogs / boar back into the UK and tell me that won't happen with the wolves.
Where they have plenty of space to roam these animals are an essential part of the ecosystem, but habitable land is under great pressure due to a growing population and people are now moving out into areas that previously would have been an ideal wolves domain. Conflict is inevitable and we all know what that means.
Don't get me wrong .... I'd far rather have the wolves than more people but I can't help but think that eventually, the wolf will be the loser.
