Bullet choice for the 7.5x55 Swiss
I need to get some 7,5xx55 Swiss reloaded and have just had a hunt on the shelf and found a few hundred Prvi B496 168 grain bullets which at first sight seem like a good call however although marked as .308" some people seem to think they are .3085" - checking reveals a range between 0.3075" to .3081" so OK for the rifle although average at best for anything other than plinking.
Does anyone have experience of these bullets and the 7,5x55 Swiss with the Model 1911 and can comment before I break open a new box of 155 Scenar.

Only one way to find out.

Re: Bullet choice for the 7.5x55 Swiss
We have used .308 calibre bullets in our K31 - currently 178gr A-Max.
155gr Scenars will shoot fine - the barrel is 1:10.63 if I remember correctly. You didn’t specify which 7.5mm rifle you’re using, but in our experience the K31 is capable of excellent accuracy - far better than most military bolt actions.

I found that my mod 1911 worked best with 168gr Nosler match and vv140

A quality bullet, down a quality barrel is the secret of rifle accuracy. Privi bullets really are too inconsistant as far as I’m concerned. Any quality .308 bullet will give far better than Privi.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

This is the Model 1911 DW58.
SimG - I do agree and opted for the 155 Scenar with everything laid out on the reloading bench ready to go, I will drill and tap a case in a few minutes to see what the actual COAL which means I can build a few to factory length and a few long assuming they fit within the magazine and will actually seat in the cases.

Re: Bullet choice for the 7.5x55 Swiss
Not strictly related, but I use a 155gr Scenar in my Finnish Mosin Nagant (7.62x53R) and it is quite accurate! I would imagine you'd also get great results with your 1911 with this bullet.
I know a couple of guys who shoot 7.5x55 and from memory they shoot ppu bullets in the 175gr mass territory. Not sure if this is because the sights are calibrated for this bullet mass or some other reason.

you are shooting a 100? year old service rifle that would originally been expected to shoot 3MOA or so off of elbows with iron sights with a bullet not specifically made for the job, its up to you how much money you throw at it, but I suspect the PPU will make no noticeable difference as long as the rifle likes the weight /fitOvenpaa wrote:This is the Model 1911 DW58.
