We both know (and shoot) types of gun which I would say pose much more of a threat (being realistic) than a .50cal rifle. Why aren't they going after those now?

They don't have to 'go after' them. They just have to make ownership or use so much of a ball ache or expense that people don't bother to keep them. The suggestions in the FCSA meeting about security are ludicrous and IMHO could be easily made prohibitively expensive.

Think of Sec. 7.3 storage and use.

Not sure I agree. Those behind this are the types behind the 1988 amendment. And its a form of push back.

They were not concerned with bolt action centrefire nor .22 semi auto then, are still not and it will likely stay that way.

Are you sure they won't go after the .22 semi autos when they can?

I've just emailed BASC political dept asking for any update, also told them in no uncertain terms that if they were shown to have been ineffective in fighting this then I & many other target shooters wouldn't be renewing our memberships.

All it would take is one terrorist incident, or active shooter using either type lets say 'effectively' and they'd be for the chop too. The police/public simply seem to lack the imagination as to how such guns could be employed to rack up double digit fatalities.

Go after the most 'scary' things (to the public) first. The demonization of guns in this country already has terrific momentum but it will get to the point where a majority of the public actively dislike them, rather than being unaware/apathetic as they are now.

I have recently bought a Chiappa 1887 for cowboy action shooting. Mine is the 5+2 version... below this video shows the "fast load" 2 shot version in action. In skilled hands it is really quick (also shows the rate of fire from lever action rifles) :

Then, lets not forget the popular "Mad-Minute" competitions with old Lee Enfield rifles...... I wonder if our club will quietly put a stop to these on MOD ranges?

Go after the most 'scary' things (to the public) first. The demonization of guns in this country already has terrific momentum but it will get to the point where a majority of the public actively dislike them, rather than being unaware/apathetic as they are now.

Yes, you're right on both points but .22s have been used in this country in high profile murders with no knee-jerk reactions. If we had a big, high-profile incident with one, a ban could happen, but looking at it the other way I think it's very unlikely a terrorist would choose a 10/22 over an AK-47 and both can be obtained illegally if you're determined enough.

The same argument applied with .50 cal and MARS. It's very unlikely they would be used illegally as there are easier ways, but this consultation isn't based on logic or objectiveness, it's (IMO) partially a reaction to the Vegas shootings which the Police saw as an opportunity to push their agenda and get a free ride on the back of the knife/acid legislation.

They've picked two categories which they can present to the public as being 'military, high power, rapid, anti-materiel' and all those other key words used to instill fear into the uninitiated and if they succeed they will turn their attention to the next most scary category.

that must be so stupidly slicked up. i have the 2 shot adapterand you have to get the cartridges in so precisely to get it to work right, when it is perfect, it's quicker than my 97 pump, but it is so much easier to be fast with the pump
