Re: New laws coming?
If there are so few 50's in use, you can bet they will definitely grab any opportunity to delete them before the calibre becomes too popular, and hence, more costly to ban.

If they pay compensation[/quote]
An RDF at our club seems to think that they will include the SGC lever Release along with the MARS and just put the whole lot on Sect 5 and not pay out any compensation :-(

Tell him to read the Consultation Impact Assessment:HH1 wrote:

Page 2: "The only other cost is to the government as there will be a need to compensate private gun owners who surrender their firearms. This is expected to cost between £1.0 million and £1.1 million in the first year of the policy."
Re: New laws coming?
Problem becomes worse when people who have not read the information start spouting unsubstantiated "opinions". We all need to confine our discussions to the actual facts we have at hand and not dream up other worse case scenarios.
Remember rumours can damage a business and wreck a livelihood.

Re: New laws coming?
Quite. I do wonder how many here have actually taken the time to read the Home Office documents.

I did mention that, but he wasn't convinced.JSC wrote:Tell him to read the Consultation Impact Assessment:HH1 wrote:

When I first read the consultation document I was (selfishly) relieved for myself as an owner of a SGC 9mm Lever Release to see that they hadn't factored in the substantial cost of all the SCG rifles out there. I don't know how many SGC rifles have been sold, but from personal observation of the number of owners amongst the clubs I'm a member of, it has to be far more than the 400 MARS rifles that are at risk of confiscation.
Personally, I wouldn't put it past this government to turn around and say, "We NEED to confiscate ALL of these evil rifles... we can't afford to compensate so we'll just put them on Sect 5"......
Since I got my SGC 9mm I'm sure that I have read of Police Forces advising FAC holders not to buy lever release / MARS rifles as they could at some point be banned without any compensation given?

Re: New laws coming?
Oh and what about the sentence:
"between £1.0 million and £1.1 million in the first year of the policy."
So is there a "second, third, fourth year..... " and what do they come for next?

Re: New laws coming?
The bottom line is that the gov. can do whatever they like, to whoever they like, and there's really no point in beating yourself up about it............

Compensation payments for handguns was paid over three years, hence an accurate figure of the final bill would be "too costly to collate" as I was told by Anne Widdecombe.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
