Removing rear sight from Lee Enfield No4 Mk1
Hi all.
I've got a lovely Fazakerley rifle that I'm about to start loading for so I'd like to fit a scope for a bit to help develop a load.
I've got a nice Armalon mount that replaces the rear sight but the flat head screw that holds the rear sight in place is very firmly stubborn.
Any hot tips on removing it from the Enfield Professors?
SF.

Have you tapped the pin out at the other end to the screw head? It's tapered and needs to be removed upwards. If you put the safety on it will give you clearance and turn the rifle upside down to tap the pin out. Make sure you don't lose the pin, it's very small. The sight will be under tension from the plunger and spring underneath it.

Keep hold of the sight when you take the pin out because there's another spring loaded pin underneath it.

There is a vertical retaining pin (#26 in diagram) holding the horizontal screw (#27) going through the rear sight and holding it in place. Knock this pin up, being careful not to lose it, which will allow you to remove the horizontal screw. You may need to depress the rear sight to aid in the removal of the horizontal screw. Keep pressure while pulling out this screw as there is a plunger (#24 and #25) under spring tension beneath the rear sight, I believe it is on the right hand side.
EDIT: The removal is much easier with the sight laid down against the receiver, not vertical.

No problem. Some advice on the mount. Don't be afraid to really bolt down that wedge in the stripper clip bridge! I found out the hard way after 10 rounds the mount loosened quite a bit!

Cheers. So my two groove 1942 fazakerley shoots 2" 7 shot groups in Mike's tunnel with Privi.
Three shot groups were sub inch. I'm flabbergasted.
