Let's face it, issues of 'overcompensation' do spring to mind

(and I'm not talking about *those* sort of compensators)

Well come on which is it; modern guns are either gay or over-compensating uber-machismo??
You sound confused, but then as a tree-guts gun fan age is probably a factor

Re: LMT Straight Pull
LMT has had an excellent reputation, as noted above the UK and a number of other nations, including NZ, use them as Designated Marksman's Rifles in .308. NZ just ordered over 9,000 of the 5.56 mm MARS-L.
Therein lies a potential problem. From what I understand LMT has hitherto been a small, family business. They really were not set up to make 9,000+ rifles, PLUS continue their civilian sales. There's a rumour circulating amongst people supposedly 'in the know', that quality has suffered. NZ is actually doing QC inspection, at the factory, on every single rifle. We normally do not do that. For a small (read: cheap) army like ours to pay armourers to go to the US for weeks for this purpose, somebody has to be worried.
