There are many actions used, one that surprised me was the Remington 700 which is popular outside of the UK. Personally I like the Sako actions for the .338LM as an alternative to Accuracy International.

I guess the remmy is a strong action.they seem to need abit of
TLC to true them up.I would like a remmy or clone so to fit it into an AICS long action stock.ideally I would like a AI awm.

To be honest - the Remmy, with its massive ejection/feed port and mag cut-out is very flimsy especially for a 338. It'd not be my choice.

Would it really be a much bigger port than a sako.

Hi GP. What action would you suggest for the 338 build that fits the l/a AICS stock.cheers Berger

I agree with the Gun Pimp, I did not have a warm feeling shooting the 700 with hand loaded ammunition and soon handed it back. Sako - TRG-41 or 42 as obvious choices also the TRG-S might handle the length of the 338LM. As an alternative what about the 338 Win Mag? I built a dummy round yesterday for a job however it is now with the customer. The cartridge opens up a host of opportunities with suitable Tikka and Sako donor rifles readily available. As an example I was offered an as new Tikka .338WM very recently for GBP750 with wriggle room on the price and a local shop has a synthetic/stainless Sako 338LM for similar money.

I am fine with a sako action but it then limits me on stock choice.i am not familiar with the 338 win mag.to be honest I am getting fed up with trying to sort a hme calibre.so far it's not worked out.i don't really want to look down the route of another calibre.i have a 338 lapua magnum on my ticket so I will stick with it.cheers for your thoughts.

Just get a TRG, wont need an AI chassis then. Good strong action, great trigger, accurate...

I was looking at the TRG the weekend . asthetically I prefer the skeleton style butt.i don't like the other style . surprisingly there is very few used 338 lapua magnums for sell.maybe I am looking in the wrong places.if anybody goes to the shooting show as sees one.post the rifle.price and gun dealer.that would be great.definately cheaper to buy a semi custom than build one.

GT shooting in Coulsdon have got a TRG42 in 338. Been there for a long time. I think it is £2395 and apparently has had very little use.
I enjoy my shooting but usually get a better group with the empty cases !!!!
