Try before you buy
Is there any circumstance that it is possible to test a rifle from a dealer before you buy it . When I bought a section 2 shotgun 6 yrs ago the dealer had a few guns he could let you take one at a time to a local clay shoot to decide which one suited you best .I am assuming this was legal.
Can this be done with rifles or could I shoot the rifle at a range if the dealer agreed to come with me . I have bought from him before so he knows I am serious about buying.
Is there an easier way.

Unless the dealer is adjacent to the place where you can shoot it (Fultons at Bisley for example) then I'd suggest that it's not possible. Shotguns have the 72 hour rule before it needs to be entered in your ticket. You don't have that with firearms.

Thanks , the reason I asked was that I saw a dealer shooting at my local range last month although not with me .

Very possible, as long as the dealer agrees and there is a pay & play type range within a suitable distance.
I've even known dealers to bring items to a club range by appointment.
Just a case of good RFD & suitable facilities.
A few RFDs have private ranges on their premises.

Ok so in that case it's worth asking a few dealers to see if they can arrange something like that .

No idea where you are, but I can think of loads of dealers with ranges on-site.Charlie J wrote:Ok so in that case it's worth asking a few dealers to see if they can arrange something like that .
Ivythorn, Minsterley, Blue Knight, Stead Hall, Keramco, Braidwood, Fox, etc.
No harm asking but I'd say NEW guns = zero chance of trying first

it would help with these sort of questions if people would put a locale in their profile, however as you have said you are in the South howabout Ivythorn Shooting in Somerset? steve has a good range of stock and an attached 100m range, he offeres try before you by, he will also ship on approval to your local RFD.Charlie J wrote:Is there any circumstance that it is possible to test a rifle from a dealer before you buy it .
