BSA Martini International .22

#1 Post by Mike357 »

I am shortly to acquire an old BSA Martini International 22 rifle. I am going to use this solely for Benchrest or prone target shooting at 25m, and also occasionaly out to 100m.

Once bought it is off to Baldie for a full strip and and service. It will be drilled and tapped for a scope and depending on condition I may have the barrel and action Duracoated. Now, I also may have the barrel shortened and would welcome comments about this. Will it affect accuracy very much and what is the optimum length?

The woodwork will be stripped and oiled.

I would also welcome suggestions for a suitable scope. It must have target turrets or at least finger adjustable ones, a very fine duplex reticle or target dot and have a fairly high magnification as I like to get in real close ;)

There's still plenty of people using these for prone shooting...and still getting possibles on 10-bull targets - lovely rifles :good:

Can't help you with advice, but there is a picture of one on this site, http://www.rifleman.org.uk/BSA-Internat ... nd_II.html , that has been converted for benchrest 8-)

If you're going to shoot UK 22 benchrest leagues you've got weight considerations and scope mag limitations to deal with - or at least you used to. Where's a link for the man....

I'm not going to enter official comps or shoot in UKBR as to begin with I want something I can go to our range with and shoot slowly and take my time. The 10/22 is great I want something slow. Especially when the weather is crap and I can sit under cover at 25yds and plink away.

Thats what I did An54 converted a stock for BR with a Weaver T36 mildot scope . If you get a BSA with barrel scope blocks fitted you can fit a Redfield target scope , one of the long tube scopes .
A MkIII has the free floated barrel , none of the other Mks do .
