6.5x47 Lapua and the 120 grain Amax

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Is anyone here using a 6.5x47 Lapua with the 120 grain Amax for longer distances and if so how are you getting on with them?

I am more interested in performance at distance than actual load data as I have already provisionally decided on Varget for the first few test rounds.

Varget is probaly your best option though Rel 15 is ment to be really good.ive tried the 123gr amaxs on 38grs of varget but I had I what I thought was chasing zero problem so I am not 100 percent how good they really are.they are much smoother to shoot than there big brother the 140gr amaxs.great bullets made even better now.i am yet to try the next gen ones.

I usually shoot 123 Scenars (Pointed) however they would not be great on vermin and the problem is finding a 123 grain bullet to replicate my 1000 yard load. I tried 129 grain Hornady Interlocks however expansion was sketchy hence the move to Amax as I know they have a good degree of expansion on vermin.

The 140gr amass are superb on deer and fox like creatures.I recently found the 7mm 162gr amaxs were a tad harsh on a roe.depends whether you hit a rib on entry.I am yet to try them out at 1000yds target shooting.

Amax not deer legal in the U.K. Regardless of their performance
I believe someone has recently been prosecuted having been found with a carcass and a rifle with only Amax with them
Not looking to get into a debate about it all just stating that Amax are not legally a hunting bullet

IMO the amaxs are probaly one of if not the finest alround bullets ever made and now even better.the law or something needs to change on these bullets.the amax subject as been done to death more than any other shooting subject.always makes me chuckle when you see a Newby ask the amax question lol.
