Rugar Scout maybe?

Re: Jeff Cooper’s Signature Scout Rifle Available From Steyr
SG,
Yep that's the Savage. It has astonishing write-ups and since acquiring my model 12, I became an avid Savage fan. But, the then importer, Garlands, wanted 1400 quid for one!
And unfortunately, I'm a Ruger fan! I believe that the mags used in the Ruger are AI-IE as well! But, reading an advert in Shooting Sports, Viking state that the muzzle brake won't be offered in the UK because of US export restrictions.
Either way, having experience of the Steyr Scout rifle and experience of other rifles by Savage and Ruger, I would give the Savage and Ruger cabinet space, but not the Steyr again......
(And they have to be fitted with a "Scout Scope"!)

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

With an AICS mag you have a guaranteed 10 round capacity which is good, these sort of things always remind me of the M1 which is not a bad thing. The Ruger Scout is USD995ish which should equate to be maybe GBP750 plus rings and 'scope - at that price it is a bargain. However I seriously doubt we will see it her at sub GBP1100....
Re: Jeff Cooper’s Signature Scout Rifle Available From Steyr
There's now a left-handed Ruger Gunsite Scout so I'll be ordering that just as soon as my FAC comes through. Will the barrel be factory threaded in the UK even if it doesn't come with the flash hider? How bizarre that is, I'm sure I've seen other American rifles with flash hiders in the UK. AR uppers, SIG 522s (made in USA I believe), Barret M95s etc.
Re: Jeff Cooper’s Signature Scout Rifle Available From Steyr
Apparently Viking will be importing a model with a barrel 1.8 inches longer than the American version, minus the flash hider, and with a stainless rather than black finish on the action and barrel - but the other metal parts will remain black. It also looks to have a skinnier, sporting profile barrel to me. I don't approve of any of this! How hard is it to privately import a rifle from the US? I'm able to buy firearms in the US personally... if I have the appropriate slot on my FAC can I just bring one back in my hold luggage next time I visit ? :-S I'd much rather do that, bring it back without the flash hider and replace it when I get here. Should be a damn sight cheaper too!
Re: Jeff Cooper’s Signature Scout Rifle Available From Steyr
You will need an export licence for the US side of things but you do not require an import licence at our end, just a spare slot on your FAC and then the nice HMRC people will charge you VAT and *should* then enter it onto your FAC.

I'll look into that then. Paperwork never hurt anybody

How to "legally" reduce the VAT and duty - a colleague has used this method with other items he has brought back from the USA and tends to only work with items where there is a good second hand market.
Firstly, find a friendly dealer
Purchase what you require at the dealer's full price, paying CASH. Then sell it straight back to him at and agreed price - say 50-60%.
Then, purchase the second hand item (gun) at that price - using a credit card. You then have a receipt for a lot less than the full price and provided you have used the gun whilst there, it is second hand.
HMCE will see the receipt for the used article and charge VAT & duty accordingly.

I believe that flash suppressors are restricted items now, which make their export from the US very difficult, if not impossible now.Porcupine wrote:There's now a left-handed Ruger Gunsite Scout so I'll be ordering that just as soon as my FAC comes through. Not having the time to re search but I think the flash hinder on the Ruger scout is the same as the Mini 14, so there should be lots this side and a few after market.
As flash hinders are not restricted here all they have to do is leave them off and we can fit our own or a suppressor.
