Scope advice needed.
Hi everyone I'm just looking for scope advice from some of the more experienced members. I have just payed the final finance payment on my .308 Sako TRG and I'm happy to say she is finally mine! Now it's time to get her some glass so I've been trawling the Internet and YouTube to learn as much information as I can to help me decide what would be a good scope for me But unfortunately it feels like the more information I learn the more questions it opens up.
I will try to be as detailed as I can in the hopes that someone might help me make an informed choice. So far I have been looking at a night force NXS 5.5-22x50 with zero stop in the second focal plain as its within my budget and seems like it has good glass. I'm unsure if I actually need an FFP scope or if A SFF plain will be sufficient considering I will be doing club level target shooting at known distances. what ever setup I choose I will making sure the turrets match the reticule. I just wanted to get some feed back from you guys. I haven't even started thinking about MOA vs MILS yet!
Many thanks.

You will probably get many pages of replies!
What is the maximum range you will shoot at?
MOA or MILS is not that important.
Understanding it is!
I use both comfortably.
Never owned a Nightforce and understand there were some issues with them.
Some one may chime in on that.
I have Vortex,Minox,Nikon and IOR.
The IOR is on my long range gun and its an absolute cracker.
That said the Minox is on my 223 and its good for 900 yds and its max is 15x.

Re: Scope advice needed.
Mag41 has hit the nail on the head. A decision on FFP or SFP is easy. Are you shooting at a fixed, know range or do you engage targets at multiple ranges? If it's the former, you'll want a SFP optic since the reticle remains fixed at different zoom levels. An FFP reticle may be too thick at high mag or too small at low mag.
Mrad or moa comes down to preference. Personally, I find it more difficult to think in moa than for mrad so it's an easy choice for me.
IOR make great quality glass and there's a few models you can get under a grand. I really like my 3-18x42 and I prefer this to my vortex viper pst which was slightly cheaper.
I wouldn't bother with a BDC reticle as these are calibre specific for a certain bullet weight and velocity. It's better in the long run to establish your own dope chart.

I was also looking at this scope in this configuration as an option

What's your budget?
Second focal plane is fine at predefined distances. I would say you must have zero-stop turrets, so you can easily find your way back to a known zero. It depends how accurate you want to be and your style of shooting, but I would also say get the highest magnification scope you can afford, X24 isn't quite bench rest magnification @ 900 yards IMO.

I would say this tactical scope is the benchmark by which all other tactical scopes are measured. I bought a Kahles 624i instead of this and if I had my time again, I would go for the S&B. IMO the glass is perfect, it's just lovely to look through, but this is quite different to a SFP target scope. Personally I would say if you can afford this scope, get it. If you ever go to Orion this scope will come into it's own and you can quite happily shoot Bisley all day with it as well. You'll never sell it if you do.

I was running a vortex viper 4-16x50 on my TRG, in 260rem out to 1500+yards until i got a great deal on a swarovski x5i.
It also wore a sightron 8-32 for a while.
If you want mounts, i have a genuine sako 30moa base that takes whatever size optilock rings you require.
