Identifying Old(ish) Dies

#1 Post by nfarmer »

I have been given a set of dies by a fellow club member, .38 special/.357. I'm told they were possibly manufactured by Jim Goodwin of North Devon Firearms. Can anyone help, they are steel and appear in good condition. I am told they are of very good quality. Please note I know nothing about pistol calibres.

Thanks

Yes they look like NDFS dies, if they work and everything screws in and out as they should, good internal finish and made to spec then they are Jims. If they don't then they are post Jim NDFS dies made with his old kit but not his skill and knowledge.

I believe they were bought pre the handgun ban in '97, would that be in Jim's era?

If they are Jims they will be of excellent quality. It looks like you have a decaping sizer die a expander die and a seating die.

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase these dies. I will probably never use them but I just had to have them. They are actually 38 special dies. They are beautifully made the expander is a work of art. The knurling is fantastic. I have put them on a shelf above my computer at eye level so I can gaze at them in between pounding the key board. :good:

I agree the knurling is rather special judging by the pictures.
