I'm reloading 44 magnum for my shiny new Rossi M92 and am looking to use Unique and Hannam's 240gr RNFP.
The load data in the manuals I have to hand seems to conflict.
Lee's has the max load at 7gr whereas the Lyman reloading handbook (49th edition ) goes up to 11.7gr ( and suggests starting at 10gr) which is a hell of a difference.
I'll mainly be shooting at 25-50m so I'm not looking to maximise velocity but I would also like to work up a slightly livelier load for occasional forays to 100m+.
Any suggested loads or confirmation of the safe limits gratefully received.

i'd trust lyman over the lee any day. Although is that also comparing rifle load to rifle load, or possibly rifle to pistol?

Go the powder manufactures web site and use the data on there. My advice would be to take no notice of any of the load data in the Lee manual throw it in the bin.

My Rossi likes 8.5gr of unique at 25
I've loaded them up to the maximum but with unique it's not a huge heavy load. I just stick to the lower with lead.
Ran some jacketed with H110 today can't remember how much but maximum now they woke me up. Was about 20gr I think without looking it up.

6.0gns of Unique in a magnum case is an outstanding gallery load. It's actually a special load giving slightly under 850fps from a carbine. Hotter loads look to a more suitable powder.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Thanks guys, useful stuff.
I definitely have more faith in Lyman generally... It was just the discrepancy between the two which raised the question.
I'll make up a range of loads and let you know how they work out on Saturday.

"Back in the day" my go to load for my S&W 29 revolver was 8gr of Unique under a 200gr cast, very nice round indeed :)
Nowadays I run both Henrys with 6.1gr of Nobel GM3 and a 240/245gr cast, nice gallery load and very accurate
(Both the above using 44Mag cases)
