Where the length of a batch of cases is well below the nominal case length for the cartridge, am I right in saying I should trim them to be a uniform length, even though this is well below the spec's?
The fuller story is that I'm loading for 6.5mm Creedmoor, starting with new Hornady brass, which has been once-fired in my rifle. Now that the cases have been fire-formed for the rifle's chamber, I want to tweek them to make the most of the rifle. As once-fired brass, I found measured case length varies between 1.900 and 1.915. Nominal case length for 6.5CM is 1.920; before trimming them all back to 1.900 I just wanted to make sure I'm not making an expensive mistake . . .
I also was thinking of batching them by case volume (water weight). I assume I should do this after I've trimmed them?

1.92 is the maximum case length not the nominal, SAAMI spec is for 1.92" +0" -.02" so trimming to 1.90 would be fine.
All of my current 6.5C cases are either reformed 308 RWS or 22-250 Rem, the 22-250 are all around 1.89/1.895 and work perfectly well. I did just pick up 100 once fired Hornady off another forum so I'll be checking them to see how they compare.
