French 8mm Lebel Loading

#1 Post by Joe Pugh »

Hello all.
I have just put a deposit on a French Berthier rifle in 8mm Lebel.
Haven't got it yet just waiting for the variation to come back through and shes mine.

In the meantime I have been looking at some reloading data for the 8mm Lebel cartridge.
None in any of my current loading books (Lee, Lyman) but I have managed to find some online specifically with a old version of Cartridges of the world.

The data I have found varies from about 44 grains to 49 grains of IMR 3031.

I will be loading these with Privi brass with a 8mm (.323) bullet 198g. I understand the bores on the Lebel and Berthier rifles where slightly larger but .323 bullets is what I have.

If anyone else has any experience loading for the 8mm Lebel I would like to hear your experience and any suggestions you may have for someone new to reloading this cartridge.

If anyone has any published load data they would like to share I would be interested.

Thanks

There is some good info on here http://castboolits.gunloads.com/google. ... 1916065j10
I admit to knowing nothing on reloading for the Lebel but the above was a great source of info when I wanted to get my 8x70R Kropatschek going.
Good luck.

Lee's Modern Reloading 2nd Edition has 8mm Lebel load data on pages 508/509.

On a safety note, DO NOT shoot any French `balle N`milsurp ammunition unless the rifle is stamped with an `N` on the receiver, otherwise it could result in serious pressure issues and possible injury.
