123 grain SST experience?
Does anyone have any experience of the Hornady 6.5mm 123 grain SST for expansion and accuracy versus the target biased 123 Amax for accuracy?
Re: 123 grain SST experience?
Out to 600ish mards, pretty equal accuracy wise in my findings Davie, the sst seams to hold together better on deer, they can zip through smaller quarry.

Re: 123 grain SST experience?
So expansion is not so good on smaller stuff? I was thinking of using them as an alternative for Fox as well as larger prey. This is for my 6,5x47 Acc Int which is superb with 123 grain Scenar bullets however I have not found an expanding bullet I am happy with accuracy wise. The 129 Interlock gave sporadic results and occasionally a total lack of expansion on smaller things. The problem is I will not always be out with my 22-250 which works superbly well but cannot be used on anything bigger than Muntjac.
In an ideal world there would be a 123 grain Vmax however it does not exist for my 6,5mm.

Tackb, what sort of expansion do they demonstrate? On vermin of course.
Re: 123 grain SST experience?
Ooh, thank you for confirming that :)
Re: 123 grain SST experience?
Ohh yes, 123gr amax explode rabbits let alone fox, i remember the first rabbit i hit at 400+ yards, it was 'impressive' shall we say.
Have you tried the 95gr vmax ? Mini grenades [BOMB][COLLISION SYMBOL][PISTOL]

Re: 123 grain SST experience?
Just put the 95grain through Quickload and it gives over 3350fps with RL15 which is rather impresse. I cannot see any data regarding barrel twist however i would assume it is going to be OK with around 1:8?
Re: 123 grain SST experience?
Forgot to ask, do you know what your OAL was with the 95 as it is quite short at 1.050"
