What die for straight pull 7.62x39?

Mine is not a AK Variant.
Mine is a (AIA) Australian international arms jobby.
I have never come across one in .308 either. But some other die makers sets come with a .308 expander not .311 I believe.
The Lee die set covers both options.
I mostly neck size anyway using a L.E.Wilson bushing die and a L.E.Wilson micrometer seating die.
I have also made custom expanders and dies to shoot cast boolits with. I use a NOE bullet mould that drops a lovely Loverin boolit that shoots great at 25 yards indoors using a fast burning powder.
The 7.62x39 is a easy caliber to reload for and with a bit of tweaking can be good fun.

We have an AIA 7.62x39 carbine which we currently feed on standard milsurp 7.62x39. We'd like to see what it's capable of with proper pawloads at 25 mards indoors and out to 300 or even 600 mards outdoors.

Buy the Lee die set it comes with two different sized expanders .308 and .311. Some 7.62x39 barrels are .308 and some are .311.
Mine is .311.
I reload 7.62x39 it is straight forward enough. I also shoot reduced load cast boolits in it for 25 yards indoor shooting. You can reload steel cases but I would recommend you buy brass cases.

What powder and charge weight do you use? Also what weight bullets. I was wanting to do the same for 25m indoor, but not sure where to start, appreciate any advice you can give please.

OK,I think I will go for Lee dies set 3pcs.Any good bullets here in UK?-123gr or more? Apparently bullets from 7.62x25 also can fly v-well in this calibre,but v-hard to source....Personally,I stopped at 300m distance and still practising on fig.12-the goal is "all in target" for now... aaarggh

I have used the 123grain full metal jacket bullets from Kranks no need to buy from Germany unless you want to of course.

My initial trials with cast boolits in the Australian International arms rifle did not go to well. I initially used soup can boolits with a Vitavouri powder but they did not group very well at 25 yards. I tried other boolits but I could not get it to group. I eventually slugged the barrel and took a chamber pound cast. This information enabled me to buy a suitable mould from NOE moulds in the States.
I discovered that my rifle prefered a longer Loverin boolit with lots of lube grooves. Once I had the correct boolit that fitted the bore every thing changed. It now shoots just fine at 25 yards with cast boolits and performs out to longer distances using the 123 grain bullet from Kranks. The 123grain bullet works but is only OK ish. I am currently playing with a heavier bullets in .312. The rifle is a fun gun its never going to win any medals but its my fun gun so thats OK.

If you want to shoot cast boolits at 25 yards Im sure Adam (Dromia)will point you in the right direction.

OK,so who has any load data for heavy bullets in 7.62x39 with Herco powder?I have 164gr powder coated .311 and found on US forum load for .30-06 like this-159gr bullet and 9gr of Herco was good for 1225fps.But I think probably half of this-4.5gr will be my starting point for 25m???Or maybe less?-but I used 3.5gr Herco and 148gr Hollow base WC in my nitro revolver and no drama so I assume my AK can hold 4.5+gr without problem but bullet weight +20gr more can be an issue here?
