PPU Brass / HPS TR brass

#1 Post by Yogibear »

Does any body here reload either of these cases and what is your opinion of it regards quality, longevity and accuracy? How do they compare to Lapua / RWS / GGG
I know the HPS case was manufactured by somebody else for them, but I cant find who.

I use Privvi to reload 308 and find it very good, so much so I've just started to use Privvi cases to reload 6.5 x 55. A friend of mine uses Privvi cases to reload 303 and swears by them.
I also use RWS, Norma, GGG and Lapua in 308 (anything I can get my hands on in fact) and find no real difference between them to be honest. That might just be my shooting though.

From what I've read PPU cases are quite good, their bullets can vary a bit though.

Mixed results with ppu. I use them in 222 no problem. But i had some for 338LM and the neck split on first resize, from factory loadings.

I've found ppu/nny to be reasonable brass in 223 and 308, but with some variation in case volumes. Perfectly acceptable until you get the chance of some RWS or Lapua.
I've also reloaded hps-tr in 308 and it seems to be as good as RWS, similar in weight and case volume and heavier than the PPU.

Hope that helps.

Use PPU in .223 and 7mm-08. It'll never be Lapua, but it's decent and relatively inexpensive. Make a difference? Don't know, I get half MOA well past 300m with RPA using it.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

HPS brass is MEN brass. Its very good. 10+ reloads out of it.

RWS is tad softer easier to reform / size (its polished so you dont see the heat marks from annealing). careful resizing its good & lasts but looses its shine with tumbling.

PPU is fully annealed brass round the neck harder on base & thinner walled.

GGG is Ok but the primer pocket sizes vary enormously. (even after taking the crimp out).

& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?

What Hitchphil said......... HPS, RWS and PPU are excellent brass................I'm using PPU in 223 with quite stiff loads, and it's fine. Haven't had any problems with it at all.
Also worth trying are the KVB-223M magnum primers.........at £21/1000, they're a no-brainer
