I have to say, I've just looking forward to getting a recipe that works well for my rifle and I can just start cranking out the ammo. I just like things to work, rather than fiddling on forever!

Cheers I've got my test ammo made up now, just need to find a date/venue to try it! Will probably be September by the time I get an opportunity, I'm just THAT much of a social butterfly

I understand what you are saying. I'm buying ammo at the moment and accumulating a lot of fire formed brass of the same make, with the possibility of purchasing more of the same headstamp.
Once I have found the correct recipe I don't plan altering from it. Stick with the same combination for as long as possible. I should have said that I don't plan on doing big batches straight away. That would be a recipe for disaster.Find a load which works for me, iron out the bugs, get the daft rookie errors out of the way etc .
Ammo limit on my ticket is not an issue.
Bradaz, yes I think I may be being a bit optimistic about the time which I am really going to be spending on this, especially when my OCD kicks in and I start meticulously doing everything to the Nth degree.

The market may not allow you to stick with one load for so long. Over periods of time you'll find your favourite powder is not available, certain bullets become to expensive etc.

In the 5 years that I've been handloading for I've never stuck with one single load for a single calibre (save for my .357 because one tub of powder lasts me 2,000 rounds and I buy bullets in bulk).

Invest in some time on a tunnel range with a chrono - make five round batches with half grain increases in powder working away from the maximum. My rifle gave most consistent results with rather less than the maximum safe load for that power/bullet combo (I'm a reloading novice as well but that worked for me!!).

I was contemplating some range time at the tunnel near Axminster, but was not too convinced of the benefit of only testing at 100m. Whether the difference between a good or mediocre 300m load would be evident at 100m. I expect we would only be talking about a few mm difference between the groups.

It's more about finding a load that gives the most consistent muzzle velocity for me. That's got to key for good grouping, at least as a starting point.

I'm at a wedding on 19th&20th so I'll not be in a fit state, especially for accuracy testing. Was supposed to be at a wedding the night before 3 Counties September date too but there's jungle drums that it might not be going ahead..... Come oooooonn relationship break up!
