Now that makes sense.
Bloody ruskie rubbish making sure that the comrades cannot reload.
Over here a ringed chamber is a sign of bad handloading them ruskies make a virtue of it, no wonder they are isolationists.
So how does a ringed chamber pass proof? Which CIP/SAAMI spec is that?

I'm not sure you get what I mean about the stepped ring that I'm talking about so here's a pic, granted it is a 7.62x39 chamber but the effect is the same with my 54r......the one on the left is an Izhmash Saiga chamber, the one on the right is a standard AK chamber, the ring effect can clearly be seen on the left.As I said earlier it is a peculiarity of Russian civilian firearms produced by Izhmash in Russian military calibres and is a requirement of Russian law enforcement agencies.dromia wrote:If the headspace is off yes it can be an issue but with firearms within normal specification then at least half a dozen FL resized reloads are possible without worry.
With the Enfield which is said to be notorious for this I have had eight FL resized handloads from my current batch of brass which has been fired in sundry different rifles with no problem so far.
If what your ruskie pal says was an immediate issue with once fired brass then none of us would be handloading ammunition at all, if an incipient case head separation is due the you can usually feel for the potential separation ring with a bit of bent wire in the case.

A L.E.Wilson type bushing neck die would probably sort that out. You could set the bushing to size down to the ring you would not have to worry about the ring then. Is the case in the picture 7.62x54. Send me one I'd be intrested to have a look at one in the flesh I'll pay the postage. A couple would be even better.

One of those neck dies wouldn't work for me as I'm using a Lee Classic Loader not a press and dies.
Will pop a couple of cases in the post when I get chance

You don't need a press you can use them with a soft faced hammer they are similar to the Lee loaders. Actually if you are using a lee loader there is probably no benefit. I should of read your post properly before chipping in. Sorry. I would still be interested in some cases though and a 7.62x39 if you have the same issues. I made a neck bushing die for my 7.62x39 that works very well. Its similar to the Lee loader actually its exactly like the L.E.Wilson Jobbies.

No problem with my 7.62x39.....my Romanian AK has a true AKM chamber with no step.Alpha1 wrote:You don't need a press you can use them with a soft faced hammer they are similar to the Lee loaders. Sent my Ruskie buddy a pic of the Sellior&Bellot case,he had a look and said nothing to worry about as his does the same and he gets 6-7 reloads per case before he get rid.dromia wrote:Now that makes sense.

From my original email he thought I had a nasty bulge in the case!, wires got crossed somewhere.
Apparently some H&K and Walther firearms have stepped chambers, maybe some others do as well.

The step at the shoulder/neck will not be an issue just full length size it out, something over nothing.
If you wanted to you could try partial full length resizing it and leave the ring in place so long as the case doesn't lengthen too much as to keep the step the die wouldn't be setting the shoulder back to keep the step. But then all the previous chambering caveats would mostly apply.
I would just full length resize and crack on.

Thank you, I thought I would ask the question to be on the safe side rather than just crack on and potentially given myself problems.dromia wrote:The step at the shoulder/neck will not be an issue just full length size it out, something over nothing.
