A couple of examples of what is out there if you are patient.

A 1915 M96 Swedish Mauser, un-fired since an arsenal re-furb prior to 1945.

A French Berthier M1907-15 rifle made by Remington in 1915.

This particular rifle was in all original, un-issued, un-fired condition when I bought it.

The French cancelled the contract and the rifle was never delivered to the French military. Because of this, it was never issued with a serial number.

Both rifles are superb shooters.

David - how about a Schmidt Rubin M1889, 1896/11 or perhaps a G11.

I've long fancied an M1889 or 1896/11 - the M1889 can be obtained "off ticket" as an obscelete calibre and then added to FAC when you decide to shoot it.

The 1889 fits the bill age wise and they are easy enough to source. The Viking had an 1896-11 for a while and I still have a load of brass sized. primed and ready to be loaded if we ever decide to look for another one.

I love the Swiss straight pulls and have been fancying one of the early ones for quite a while to complement my K31.

I have no idea - the photo comes from the Swiss Rifles site.
