Back in black!

#1 Post by Blackstuff »

After a good half hour search for the "I've got a new gun thread" thread, I've given up! IF the mods want to shift this onto the end of that please feel free!

Well its technically a new gun, but actually just a replacement for my last one. My original VZ58 MARS had to go back to Caledonian Classic Arms as it started malfunctioning in a very naughty (but fun) way, however not fun enough to justify 5 years in the clink.

It was one of the first batch and didn’t have a chrome lined barrel, had the older style mechanism and was only available in green. Now the VZ58, IMO is one of the ugliest guns ever made but the green colour made it even worse, again IMO, but I made my peace with it.

When it needed to be upgraded/mended Scott at CCA very kindly organised the pick up and sent it back to CSA in the Czech Republic to be rebarrelled, update the mechanism and also be repainted BLACK.

The CSA factory are currently well behind with orders and after discussing my rifle with Scott at the Northern Shooting Show he suggested I might be better off just getting a brand new rifle! IF you can get ahold of Scott, and that’s a big ‘if’ at present*, he’s a top bloke and his customer service is excellent, worlds apart from my experience with another ‘release mechanism’ rifle maker…

*Scotts premises are in the middle of nowhere with very poor mobile signal and a farmer has apparently very helpfully ploughed up a 400m section of armoured phone line which BT aren’t particularly bothered about replacing given there’s less than a handful of buildings it supplies…Therefore he has to rely on an answer machine and emails that he only gets once he goes home.

Anyway, my brand spanking new VZ58 arrived this week and I have to say, I much prefer it in black what a surprise(!) The only downside is because of clashes of dates with PSG comps its going to be a good while before I actually get to shoot it! Well, unless I can persuade the owner of North Cotes Butts to let me use the tunnel for a while before an upcoming mini-rifle comp….

A couple of different configurations;

Does the new barrel have a different twist rate?

Nice :) If you're not going to be using it I suggest you give it to me to "look after" I can see if it cycles sub-sonic loads and decide if I'm going to get one (in black obviously!)

p.s. Was this what you were looking for? http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13190

I am sure Martin will not mind you zeroing however if you shout when you want to zero in the tunnel I will come over so you can be my guest. I always have things that need zeroing so it is not a problem and I am only 20 minutes away :)

I'm sure he'll let me too, last time I was down there he just gave me the keys and told me to lock up when I was finished! Thanks for the offer though! :good:

Its in .223 so I doubt you'd get a sub load that would cycle the action! Would be nice to see if it could be done with the 7.62x39mm version though as it could then be used for mini/gallery rifle comps in lieu of a 9mm version!

That must've been the only section I didn't look as I remembered I'd posted pics of a .22 MP5 in the thread a while back and so thought it wouldn't be in there 8-)

Can we have a big argument between the Green camp and the Black camp now ;))

Mine is green and only a straight pull.

I like green.

PS Nasty rumour on UK Shooting News about MARS and LR actions (have a SGC 9mm LR)

Vested interest in .22LR .357 9mm .223 .308 7.62x39 & 7.62x54R

For anyone interested -
It is important to note that these claims are from a single unverified source, and should be treated as such.

Good, best to enjoy as long as we can.

Those that have a .223 version and have fitted the AR (no not again!) mag well how well does it function with Magpul mags as I bought the conversion kit when I bought my VZ and have not fitted it but now that I have Another Rifle that takes Magpul mags I was thinking of fitting it?
