Well... strangely, apparently Mr Yardley did put the airgunners points across well...

Quotes from the forum:

"I think Mike put the Pro shooting side across well!"

"Mike got in most of the points we discussed beforehand and I think he did really well. It certainly helped that he was up against an extremely badly informed lady but I don't think that could have gone any better."

"Just listened & he was absolutely spot on with his comments pointing out that it's totally wrong & already illegal, as well as getting in some facts & figures & pointing out current police delays with licencing and the chaos in Scotland due to deadlines being imposed before details are available to grant any licences."

Maybe hes started airgunning nowadays...???

Spooky...He was actually quite good and nipped the licensing argument in the bud as well.

Might be getting fed up of being put down.

If he was put down properly then he wouldn't be able to get up.

The truth that nobody will acknowledge is that your pet cat is most likely to have been shot by your "respectable" super keen gardening neighbours who are p*** off with said cat digging up the flowerbeds and crapping on the lawn. However the neighbourhood yobs get the blame.

I refuse to listen to the Jezzer Vine show, usually wild inaccurate statements being made by poorly informed or totally biased guests or idiots who phone in.
How very true. I'll admit to being tempted myself.
In some countries cats are regarded as an absolute menace and any cat straying further than 50m from habitation is regarded lawfully as fair game.

I can't comment on the views that some of you guys say Mike Yardley spoke about on face book because I don't watch it but I will say that Mike Yardley has usually come across to me as a good spokesperson for all shooting disciplines. I did listen to part of the radio 2 programme this afternoon as a friend of mine sent a text message to me and suggested that I listen in though he didn't at first state what I was supposed to be listening to. I had to switch the radio off after a short while because I found Vanessa Phelps (spelling?) and the "cat lover" person quite iritating.

Mr. Doe's comments on the other forum did make I laugh:
Terry D wrote:Mike Yardley will be talking about airgun licensing on the Jeremy Vine show, today, around 12.30. I think Vanessa Feltz will be sitting in for Jeremy Vine but I'm not sure. Either way, see if you can tune in.

Mike has been very well briefed and he knows his subject, so he'll be fine. He has all the facts and figures about the way firearms licensing works, too, and he's right up to speed on airgun law. Whether he'll be given a fair shout remains to be seen, but Yardley's not one to be bullied and he's an experienced campaigner.

We'll speak this morning before he goes on but I have every confidence that Mike will represent us extremely well. Please tune in if you can.
Terry D wrote:That is simply not the case, Daryll. Mike has opinions on certain aspects of shooting which don't chime with everyone, but he's a passionate and committed shooter who will fight for our sport. I've worked with him for many years and he genuinely cares about airgunning and the welfare of the shooting sports.
I believe it was Mr. Doe that expressed concerns about Steyr LP50s and Hunting 5 airguns being used for "drive by" shootings in the early stages of the current semi-auto airgun discussions. I really am not sure what to make of Mr. D- clearly he's a very enthusiastic airgunner but I find his manner somewhat.... superior, perhaps. I'm not the only one in our club (fair sized air rifle section) to have felt this (one member made a comment about a review being virtually a word-for-word reprint of a press release which met with "robust" rebuttals and then a withering silence once it was demonstrated). He's also come across as a slight internet tough guy before- PM's inviting me to have a "chat about things"- no thanks, mate, we're fine where we are.

The more exposure these people get the more they feel their opinions matter and the more wide spread they seem to perceive their expertise to range.

Its a bit like BONO and Gob Geldof....made their money so now start yelling about how we should donate ours along with other gems of political advice.

Over exposure does not an expert make....but a bloody good target it might so you need to learn when to pick you battles and when to shut the cluck up.

Seems Mr Yardley has yet to learn teanews

Well, quite. Mr D and Mr Y are right and we're all wrong. Apparently.
Haje wrote:Mr yardley may just be trying to rebuild his reputation after throwing so many full-bore shooters under the bus. He has made it quite clear that he is against those who have an interest in anything that could be described as "black and tactical" and involves such disciplines as "3-gun" or "practical shotgun". He is only really interested in big game rifles and classic "gentleman's" O/U or side-by-side shotguns used by people appropriately dressed in tweed.

That statement is completely false. I know Mike Yardley very well and he is passionately committed to the protection of the shooting sports as a whole. He has concerns and he's brave enough to voice them, but he's no elitist - he's a keen airgun shooter, actually - and while I don't agree with everything he says, I have absolutely no doubt about his dedication to the overall shooting cause.
Selective quoting of Haje is as per original reply. I note the comment on "protection of the shooting sports as a whole", rather than "protection of all shooting sports".

Ahhh... so Mr Yadley is an airgunner... no wonder hes prepared to stand up and be positive about them...

Pity he wouldn't do the same for other forms of our sport..
