Thanks to everyone, I'm lucky enough to live near Bisley rather than compete at Bisley so am just looking as a starter gun, The Remington express XP seems to get great write-ups,

Can anyone confirm or deny this report??

Airguns are a great way to learn to shoot properly.

The S200 is a great little PCP. I had 8 air rifles at one time 2 HWs (One was a VMache'd HW35), 3 AA, 2 Rellums (Nostalgia) and a Daystate.

I now only have the HW100 and that needs a service.

I had more money than sense at the time and really should have just kept the 410k and the TX200 carbine as they were both solid, accurate and reliable.

The thing to remember with the spring guns is that consistency and follow through is crucial, they don't work well off of bi-pods so people actually have to learn the marksmanship principles. There is a lot going on before the pellet leaves the barrel and that needs managing, but master it and I reckon you are a half decent shot.

For hunting nothing much beats a decent .177 PCP. The rest is up to you. I hear all the .22 v .177 arguments but these ultimately in sub 12FPE come down to your ability and willingness to practice. I shot countless rabbits and squirrels with mine and had very, (very) few runners, and they did not run far.

As springers go I think the AA TX200 is quite hard to beat and was (when I got mine) a beautifully made rifle. Very solid and stable.

I also recently used a BSA Scorpion Cadet and was impressed with the accuracy of it, a great little rifle.

Thanks again for everyone who took the time to help me, I ended up with a Hatsan 1000S with an Edgar Bros 3-9 x 40 scope incl bag and pellets for under £160. My plan is to use this ( as you all seem to call in ) plinker while I serve my parol to get a FAC licence and then move onto rimfire. Had a go with a semi automatic on an open day at Bisley and loved it.
