Cutting out a cheek piece
Has anyone had a go at chopping a stock to form an adjustable cheek piece? I find my Sako 75 butt a bit on the low side even with an after market cheek pad so I am considering chopping it and adding some adjustable pillars as per the picture.
Thoughts anyone?

I've been wondering the same as well. There's a company called BK Webster which do this for shotguns (although aren't currently accepting new orders due to a big backlog). They do have some nice pics on the website showing how they do it. Apparently there are also kits available for it from a few places. Looks doable as long as you are confident with a bandsaw/coping saw and a drill press.

tbh, i find straight cut woodwork for risers look awful, i'd rather cut a nice wave on the bottom. you are more than skilled enough to knock up the riser kit

JMC67 - that is exactly as I have in mind.
Bradaz, what is the maximum thickness you have cut with your Hegner?

I keep coming back to this idea, but after I while I always conclude that adjustable cheek pieces are only useful if more than one person is using the rifle or you regularly switch between telescopic and open sights. If it's just for you, and just for a scope, you may be better off making a permanent (or temporary) raising piece at a fixed height.
My Anschutz sports some hard foam and grippy self-adhesive material to raise my sighting line. Bought from Anschutz themselves. If it doesn't need to go up much, drastic surgery seems a bit OTT!
...or go all 'enfield' on it :)

I've got one of these by erubauer
http://reviews.screwfix.com/5873-en_gb/ ... eviews.htm
but looks like it's been replaced with this

I've cut 2.5" pine with it, it takes a bit of playing to learn how the blade acts, especially on complex shapes, and it copes with grey pvc fine. not regretted it
