A guy at my club said he had been warned by them this morning about this.
Yes, that was the source. Said it was written in the minutes of the meeting that took place in I think March / April.

Indeed..... can't see it myself I'm afraid, a lovely 'if only' thought IMHO.

Would love to be proved wrong of course. :good:

Well at the instigation of the 1997 Amendment Act, certain "sweetners" were doled out to attempt to counter the injustice of the ban. Certain items were removed from s5 status and certificates were extended to five years. It is not an alien concept that the same could be done.

Saddler mentioned a move of .22lr pistols back to s1 and many of the comments have been directed to that, but really, only saddler has stated what the real risk behind that is. Most haven't been able to see past the "pistol" thing.

In regards to reclassifying pistols, most decent politicians admit freely that the 1997 Act was a terrible piece of knee jerk legislation. That widely accepted fact prevent further knee jerk legislation after the Cumbia shootings. Even the papers held back. The Conservatives have a political deniability in regards to small bore pistols as they, when they were last in government, didn't extend the ban to small bore, that was extended by Labour when they took power. Reintroducing pistols would be taken as a great step forward by shooters, as illustrated, but smoke and mirrors ultimately.

Imagine no s2. Every shotgun requiring good reason. Clay grounds having to conform to Home Office approved rules. Storing cartridges the same way as metallic CF ammunition. No setting up a clay trap in a mates field. S1 shotguns ceasing to exist as we know them now and all shotguns being if that "2 shot standard. Permission and conditions of use ad infinitum.... Not such a good idea.

S58? Hundreds, possibly thousands of people having the majority of their monetary investment wiped out. Applying for and satisfying certificate requirements. S7.1 or 7.3 requirements. Some obsolete/antiques becoming s5 overnight! Again, not so good.

But all of the above hidden or disregarded because s1 .22 pistols are back, which everyone thought they should have been anyway. It really could be a case of be careful what you wish for. A .22 pistol may come at a "huge" price....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Interestingly...a friends VZ.58 MARS had blown up twice in the past year! Both times it fired out of battery. First time it was just a big bang... second time it took out the receiver. Apparently back at CZ for repairs....

And rather than banding together I but there are some that would willingly see, for example, straight pulls etc go if they had .22 pistols back on sec1 as straight pulls etc "aren't their thing"!.

Not good.....if it took out the receiver then surely a new rifle would be in order?.Was your friend ok?.Not sure on Vz's but on an AK there is a protrusion on the rear of the bolt carrier that prevents the hammer contacting the firing pin if the bolt is out of battery.
