The AX is fitted with a Barnard SM action and 29" Krieger Med Palma Barrel, its all up weight incl Dolphin Bipod is 6.860KG
So you have 1.2Kg left to play with for rings and scope, easily accomodated by a Sightron or Niteforce BR scope.
its built for long range and yes the barrel does look a bit long, but it grows on you
Currently building one on a Stiller Predator in Black with fluted and blacked barrel.
The AX chassis is very good and I prefer it to the earlier one, much easier to get comfy behind the rifle.
I agree its not everyones cup of tea, But it would be boring if we were all the same
Mik was good enough to bring one of the two rifles to the Long Range comp and Alan and I managed to have a feel - of the rifle - like excited school boys.
We held the stiller actioned version with a fluted barrel set in the black AX stock.
I noticed that the cut out to make magazine insertion easier, is on the left side, which at first glance appears to appeal more to left handed shooters, but I guess that once you get familiar with the design you will find your own system which works.
The fore guard is not an issue and could actually work as something to put a mirage band on and it will give some flexibility for the mounting of Bipods. Interestingly, you could attach a bi pod leg to either side of the tube should you want to, a design that I have seen but not sure of the benefits off.
All in all a very attractive package, unfortunately despite wanting one it will be quite some time before I will be able to place an order unless Mik starts doing credit!
Once again, well done to Mik for getting his hands on them and getting them out there, I hope they do well for him,
I'd love to see one with a 26-28" barrel in a tactical set up. I was thinking about an AICS but also like McMillans A5, the AX and the Manners stocks. Too much choice!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
