Saiga AK103 7.62 x 39 what's it worth?

#1 Post by Dark Skies »

I'm mulling over selling some of my rifles with the idea of moving away from NRA Bisley which no longer suits my needs nor pocket.

I haven't quite decided whether to translate all of my full-bores to cash and get slots for more under levers and pistols that I can shoot on local club ranges or a split down the middle and keep a few back for shooting on shorter non MOD ranges.

Anyhow ... in the meantime I'm trying to get an idea of what my Russian built Saiga is worth - now they aren't coming into the country.

Hasn't been shot that much maybe 350 rounds. What with Short Siberia access severely curtailed and weekend range use at £50 a pop - plus all the hassle of getting to Bisley ... I just haven't had the opportunity.

It's a Saiga AK103 in 7.62 X 39 - Oleg swapped the plastic furniture with more traditional wooden furniture st my request.

Not wishing to pee on your parade but that's one of the ugliest rifles I have ever seen. I would not give you 50p for it.
But if it makes you feel any better Hanams are selling 7.62.39 ammo for £125 a 1000.
You just need to find some were other than Bisley to shoot it or down load it use cast. I shoot my 7.62x39 at 25 yards with a cast bullet.
I can not understand why any body would buy a Saiga AK103 7.62 x 39 I would not have one for free. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

That's fine - useless information, but fine.

Obviously I'm more interested in hearing from people that actually do like this particular style. Shall I post some more pictures of other rifles that are prettier that you'd like to slag off and don't want to buy? Or shall we take it as read you've nothing useful to add?

Local dealer near me has a Saiga but the fixed wooden stocked style for sale for £600 it has had the trunion conversion done to take standard AK mags comes with 4. It's been for sale for almost 6 months.
We bought our Saiga for £450 almost a year ago.

Just a tip.....
Before you offer for sale remove the rust from the muzzle brake or poeple will think you have not cleaned it recently.

You may have luck now that Oleg has sold out of his AK's....

Cheers. To be honest I can't recall what I paid for it new. It's one of those rifles you fancy for the novelty, shoot a bit, go back to your favourites but then return to after an absence of use and repeat. I have a number of impulse buys like that. :) I'm loathe to actually sell rifles - it just feels wrong. However, I'm streamlining my life at the moment and removing 'bother'.

The muzzle break is a pain - forever running a bronze brush through it.

Nice looking example, if it was me would join another club and keep it or just have it in the cabinet for a rainy day :good:

I bought one some time ago for £450 with one mag and it needed a bit of work (feed ramp fitting and bolt carrier sorting as someone had mirror polished it!!!) and seen some recently for around £650 but really depends on what people are prepared to pay as they are a bit niche, but I would try to avoid the "no more coming in from Russia" trap which some RFDs are using at the moment for Saigas and Tigrs (SVD).....some are asking silly money because they are "really, really rare Sir".

Alpha....ultimately a Saiga is a civilian AK and isn't designed to look pretty!!!.Anyway looks are subjective, personally I think the SLR/L1A1 is awful especially as a straight pull.

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, but the answer is what people will pay to me is whatever people are willing and what the market dictates. Regarding L1A1's I regard them as looking their best with wood furniture though.
