Re: Anyone built a gun room?
can you retain the garage door? I know an RFD who has, I would think some sort of modern insulated door with some bars etc locked across the back of it should be enough to ensure it can't be opened from the outside?

The security handbook gives very clear guidance on garage doors...

Even if I could (its a motorized double door so i doubt it could be lifted with enough security), the wife does not have an SGC or FAC so although I could then have the safes out there, I'd still have safes, even then they would have to be boxed in so as not to be visible to casual visitors.bradaz11 wrote:can you retain the garage door? But I personally wouldn't feel comfortable having them out there, even though the garage is integral and alarmed etc

the guidance mentions garage doors when safes are located there, but makes no mention of it for a gunroom. which is why I asked.meles meles wrote:The security handbook gives very clear guidance on garage doors...
to OP, I thought you were thinking of using the garage, sorry. It's what I'm planning so I obviously read what I wanted to see.

No cause for apology, I'm just lucky that our garage is large enough to have a room built within it reallybradaz11 wrote:

mine would've too, if the bugger hadn't pulled out of the sale :(
next house im trying to get has a normal sized garage so i'd convert the whole thing after knocking an internal door into the house

You can always put a block wall up behind the garage door, I saw this done at the last village, it had a side door and they added a wood burner so it would have been nice and snug inside.

ideally i'd like to keep the door, as a lathe will be going in soon. i'm not bothered if it takes 5 mins to be able to open the door, just would like to keep the option rather than blocking it up
