The fashion for small HV calibres has largely gone now with 9mmP as the short-distance rapid fire tool and 308 as heavy artillery here and in Europe at least. I wonder how many H&K MP5s have been sold to police forces in recent years - must be a hell of a lot!
A good write up as usual Laurie but you didn't mention that many forces replaced the MP5 with the G36 (.223) carbine a few years ago. They now seem to use a mixture of MP5 , G36 and more recently variations on the AR platform for short/medium range use. Some forces for instance Avon & Somerset adopted the Steyr AUG at one time but I'm not sure if they are still in service. However as you say they have mainly moved back to the .308win and larger for the sniper/counter sniper role.
One thing is for certain though and that H&K have sold a lot of guns to U.K. forces in the last 15 years or so.
