I love it when some of the older generation say you shouldnt be allowed a military rifle but they turned up at the range with an enfiel.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find there to be much novelty in wearing uniform in my own time.

This technique survives the horror storms in Oklahoma and its served me well through some bad weather in Norfolk too. It might not look amazing, but it's pretty handy for different things on a firing point.

Absolutely. No one had any problem whatsoever with the walting t*at in head to toe MTP I shot next to on the weekend.

I think the bottom line, and what certainly rubs me up, is a clear intention to deceive. This comes across not just in clothing (most walts don't wear it well anyway) but in actions as well.

Its not a storm in a teacup. There is something rather insidious about someone who feels the need to deceive as well as own a firearm...and then act as a what? Is lying about your past an activity to be aligned with shooting? We dont like cheats so what's the difference?

Its a shooting sport not a re-enactment club FFS. Re-enactors are what they are and, in their place, serve a really useful purpose in terms of living history, but we are not talking about re-enactors.

I dont care who wears what, just dont tell porkies or be upset if you get a sarky comment form one of the many serving or exe servers out there.

Dont forget also that the military do use the ranges, and the casual observer seeing a walking compost heap that looks a bit like a squaddie might put 2 and 2 together and surmise that they have let their standards slip. OK, I grant you that snipers (proper ones, not the herds of them that descend on Bisley week in week out) are allowed to be scruffy....but the rest.

In reality, the real walt is rare, I have only come across a couple in a long time. But then they are pretty obvious.

PS....I wear head to toe MTP in the rain on the ranges but otherwise I am the usual bag of s*** you all know and laugh at

There are people out there that have an exceptional eye for detail when it comes to medals/awards, so the likelihood is, that the walter mitty types will be found out.

Not quite the same when people are wearing an MTP jacket though.

As a non-serving, never have, likely never will member, i can say that i own head to toe MTP waterproofs. Not because I wanted a fashion item, but as I was travelling to a cold and wet place to do some shooting I needed some gear that was made with holding a firearm in mind and good quality waterproofing, add in that I didn't have a lot of cash and it's the very best way to hit all those notes.

I think for a top and bottoms it was around £70. for which I couldn't get a jacket in civvie style with the same design features.

I take them to the range when I'm going, but only wear them when necessary.

Due to the massive overhang over the belt line, I wouldnt think anyone is going to mistake me for a walt, however I am aware that it's still a contentious issue and unless its extremely cold and it's the last layer of clothing I have available, or it's pouring down, they stay in the range bag. Anyone standing around a firing point passing judgement on what I'm wearing in the rain is welcome to it. I'll be dry and not bothered about their opinion
