Soviet Uniform suitable for Mosin Nagant...

#1 Post by bigfathairybiker »

So... all this talk about uniforms got me thinking....

If I wanted a uniform that a Soviet soldier issued a M44 Nagant in WW2 would be wearing, what would I be looking for and where would it be best to obtain it.

Not saying to buy from them, or saying that ALL their descriptions are 100% historically accurate....
Look at the Chinese firm HIKISHOPS
You'll get a good idea of what was used.

There is also a UK trader on Etsy doing a lot of repro. WW2 Soviet aggressor kit & accessories.

Search worldwide on Ebay for Soviet uniforms etc, look for sellers in Russia and Ukraine and kit will be genuine.....cheap enough so why buy repro?.

This might give you some ideas.....

You will not get a cheap Soviet WW2 uniforms . If it is , it is likely that you have been lied to. Real Soviet WW2 uniforms are like hen teeth & accordingly very expensive.
However you have cheap options with the two most iconic piece of uniform of the WW2 frontic : The post war telogreika (padded jacket) is identical to the WW2 & so is the early post war Gymnastyorka (combat tunic) that will pass easily for a M43 WW2 Mdl. (the one with the stand up collar). The belt you might have to buy a copy. I would follow Tovarich Snayperskaya's advice and do a search with those words on Ebay & get them from a former soviet country.

With Soviet Russian kit there is quite an overlap, some WW2-era equipment was still being issued well into the 80s in the Soviet-Afghan war.The WW2 style grenade pouches and water bottles/covers were still being issued for example.....infact M44s and 91/30s were still being issued to drivers and artillery crews etc and some Mosin PU sniper rifles were still issued by the Russian Federation during the First Chechen War.The Russians tend not to get rid of equipment etc all at once, there is thousands of tons of stuff sat in storage all over Russia and the former Soviet States.....look at all the old WW1 Maxims and WW2 stuff that was looted from Ordnance Depots In Ukraine recently!.
Even today it is not uncommon to see, as an example, a Russian issue Dragunov that still has the old style laminate handguards and stock despite polymer replacements being issued as of the early to mid-90s.

Here's an article on the M44 you may find interesting ussrflag

There's quite a few Soviet WW2 re-enactment groups around, they are usually the best for info on best sources/suppliers of kit (both original and repro).

You could try asking on here...

We're sure snayperskaya will confirm or refute this, but we'd suggest that the only uniform suitable for a Mosin to wear is this...
