Why the hell should we be worried about what the public might think of them???. And why are they "weirdos"?, just because what they wear or may do behind closed doors differs from what you may wear or do doesn't make someone a "weirdo".......thats just intolerance.As long as they ain't hurting anyone the way I see it is that folks can do what they want.If we were all the same the world would be a very boring place.

Ask ye olde wrinkled retainer of club official status to physically show you the section of Home Office guidelines that state MTP cannot be worn...

I've seen/heard similar hot air & pish from other club jobsworths - some seem to operate on a more of a Wimminz Institute Rulebook level than what is published by the NRA or any other shooting association...

They then turn around & use a .22 Hornet on a .22lr range "Been doing it years, it's perfectly ok...." (Just happens to violate range specs.!) and/or they start to wave the muzzle around at all sorts of angles irrespective of the location of the backstop

I make a point of not wearing any CURRENT MoD Camo on ranges....sometimes a WW2 US Army camo shirt of a Swede M90 or something else that is obviously NOT British Issue.
I almost got into the Crye MTP, but THEN the UK adopted it!! Glad I never invested (as it was/is not cheap kit)

Certainly the NRA rules are that unless you are serving military you shouldn't be wearing Camo on the range.

It's about the image of Gung Ho Rambo wannabes that having armed guys in Paramilitary wear displays about shooters to the wider public.

Never heard of a HO regulation on clothing on ranges.

I think it is NRA Rule 201 states a firer whose equipment (including firearms) or dress are thought inappropriate or likely to bring the Association into disrepute may be challenged by the RO or other member of NRA staff and may be required to withdraw. IIRC it doesn't mention camo clothing specifically.

It is generally read that full current uniform is frowned upon unless you are a serving soldier and on orders. It is realised that surplus clothing is relatively cheap and is made for the job of lying around on rough and/or wet ground so is often allowed, especially waterproofs. If you turn up looking like a modern Tommy Atkins on deployment then be prepared to be pulled on it.

Having said that, private ranges will have their own ideas about what is appropriate or not.

I often think of wearing a pith helmet when shooting my MH but the thought of NRA rebuke has always stopped me, that and being mistaken for lofty from aint half hot mum !!!!!!

Who are these "public", the only public I have seen at Bisley have been camping. How many of them have complained?

When out at my club I and one or two others have on special occasions worn attire appropriate for the rifle's we were shooting. This includes Great war service dress with the SMLE, Khaki Drill with a long Lee and, and scarlet tunic and foreign service helmet with one of the martini henry's.
