A few years ago, I had a cabbie of the 77/44 and really liked it. But I am a Ruger fan anyway. Slick, for a bolt gun and accurate. But, a four round magazine......

The only real purpose for this in my mind, is plinking.

And if you don't think a lever gun can be fired quickily....

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

the ruger 77 is designed for deer in woodland, and fully loaded is a formidible deer round. as for just being for plinking, ive just given you another useage for it,so thats 3,i reserve the right to disagree with you......and as for the guy firing the leaver action fast, well so what, most of the guys at fdpc drpc, mattersey,l marksman, marlybone and the gb and england teams can go just as quick, its no big thing........only they will be somewhere on the target, not in the sand.......

Whooa! Why get so pi$$y, so early on.....?!!

The .44 mag may well be a suitable deer round, but not in the UK. Even it at's hottest, it's only legal for Muntjac and CWD in England and Wales only. Or are you talking about the US? If so, another use would be home defence, so there's four use. So what? I'll stand by it, in the UK, with a four round mag capacity, a .44 or .357 bolt action rifle is suitable for plinking and very little else.

Who said the lever gun's shooters rounds were all in the sand? Watch the vid and listen. Each round hits a steel plate. That's what these blokes shoot at in CAS. Seven inch plates at 15 to 20 yards. And he's not the quickest. The quickest is 10 rounds in 1.7 seconds. Strangely enough, when shooting gallery rifle round the country, I don't think I've seen anyone shoot that quick....

So, enjoy the conversation, get involved with the banter. Drop your ar$e at the first time someone does not have the same opinion as you, then expect to be treated as a petulant child......

i load 240gn rnfp for target and a 240gn expander for fox, with 6.7 gn of american select,in mag cases,i ought to chrono it really, but its around 1700fps ,its accurate up to 200 yards, ive not tested further yet,and i have a custom mod on there too!

1700fps? Really?

Alliant don't list any data for .44 mag, only .44 spl, with American Select. And then, they only list 200gn bullets, with a maximum charge weight of 5.8gns, for 933fps.....

So, you load a 40gn heavier bullet, in the larger magnum case, with 0.9gns more of American Select and get an extra velocity of over 750fps......? Really?

!0 Shots in 1.73 Secs..I can just about manage 2 aimed shots in 3 Secs. :D

World record rifle run of 10 shots in 1.73sec. The action was then extended to 20.5sec for 127 shots fired. This would be a cyclic rate of 371.7 shots per minute.

OK gentlmen lets put our hackles down please.

Disagreement is fine but lets not do it personally.

Its a public forum, anything we post is up for challenge and we get a lot of that here. That is healthy and leads to better understandings so if challenge doesn't sit comfortably with anyone then they should think about what they post.

We are using a very imperfect communication medium which needs to used with a relaxed mindset. Tension breeds tensions.
