Special FAC Condition

#1 Post by Christel »

Anyone here who has an extra condition on their FAC that means they can "collect" specific rifles?

Eg for research?

Just wondering if anyone has that, what is the exact wording?

"A firearm or ammunition identified by an asterisk in Part 1 or Part 2 of the certificate must be possessed, purchased or acquired by the holder of the certificate only for the purpose of its being kept or exhibited as part of a collection.
- Not to be fired."

Don't know about the not to be fired bit. My one says for occasional use. I know a few folks with this on their license.

The bit I posted is the standard condition from the Home Office Guide - Police forces often add extra bits in that they shouldn't really do! There is an additional condition which may be used instead -

"The *calibre *firearm and ammunition may be used for target shooting, on ranges which are legally and safely constructed and maintained."

It also says:

"The main purpose of section 7(3) is to allow guns of historic interest to be preserved
and studied, including occasional shooting. It is not intended to allow for competitive
target shooting, and nor is there any obligation on owners to fire their guns or regularly
visit the site."

I suppose it comes down to whether you are allowed to fire it at all or not.

If you are then you'll also only be allowed to hold a small quantity of ammunition.

I have a Saxby and Palmer air cartridge revolver condition that says,

The Saxby and Palmer revolver s/n XXXXX must only be used with projectiles that don't exceed 6ft lb (something like that anyway)

I know some people have a condition that allows them to collect live ammunition including armour-piercing (sec5) etc......how does it work if they have a rifle they shoot in a calibre they also have collectable Sec5 ammo for?.

It works that if they do then they are breaking the law.

Not sure if I worded it right but say for example someone collected military ammunition and they wanted to add a few 7.62x54r API rounds (which are obviously Sec5) to the collection. They would never shoot the API rounds that are in their collection (as it would be illegal) but they also have a Mosin Nagant that they use to shoot standard ammunition.

As they own a 7.62x54r chambered rifle would they get the authority to add the 54r API to their collection?.

This is purely out of idle curiousity :good:

On my FAC I have many collectors slots which have permissions to be fired but they all have ammunition limitations for the calibre.

I also have some rifles in these calibres and have high ammunition allowances for them, add to that that I am an RFD and hold in stock ammunition of many different calibres then it would seem that what you are describing is no albeit I have no section 5 permissions but I do have section 7.1.
