Re: Show us your rimfire's
Hmm,point taken,yes-it looks like reasonable compromise,thnx.So,2 more options left for someone...-full and only .22mag or interchangeable barrels,1 in .22mag and other in 7.62x51

Re: Show us your rimfire's
Rather than going blowback, why not do what Franklin armory in the US did with their 17 wsm AR's and use a gas piston to get the 22 wmr going? Is that doable with a 22 wmr? Also I recall Savage made 17 hmr that works on rolley delayed blowback like a HK? Any of that workable with a 22 wmr?huntervixen wrote:Thanks for the feedback guys, regarding any possable .22WMR bolt, there is plenty of space in the receiver for a new bolt group, however, the main (serious) stumbling block would be the significantly higher pressure in the thin liner. The hotter load + plus delayed action causing possible ( highly probable) bulges into the 7.62mm bore, locking it in place solidly for good!
As it stands, the combination of a beautifully designed, very robust bolt group, which incorporates a light bolt with plenty of travel space, a large port and very positive extraction/ejection, traslates to 99.9% reliable action. The long bolt travel and large port are part of what help to make the AK series so incredibly reliable after all.
It functions perfectly on all sub and hi velocity ammo tested so far.
As it stands, it has the serious advantage of cheap plentiful ammo, its surprisingly accurate out to 100 yds + and plenty of indoor ranges to shoot it on in the winter, really, whats not to like guys!
I agree, from an engineering perspective, no unsurmountable difficulties with a .22 WMR build , but the cost of developing and manufacturing a dedicated bolt group and barrel would unfortunately be prohibitively expensive.
Re: Show us your rimfire's
Well, if I was going to design a bolt group for .22WMR I would keep it as simple as possible and go for roller delay blow back.
CMMG experimented with .22WMR in one of their .22 AR15's, with a view to producing an M4 in that calibre (I would have gone for one in a shot), I think it rapidly became apparent that the compact Ciener bolt group used in quality AR .22 builds and conversion kits by various companies was just unsuitable for the hotter calibre.
A mate in the US tells me they got it working in a fashion, with very strong return springs to assist in delaying the action among other mods, but on occasion, it would just let go with an almighty FLASH BANG BOOM!
The up shot was a totally new bolt design would be required, considering the development costs and the limited market, just not worth it.. Shame though.

Here's my CMMG MK4, only had it a few weeks but love it. I've changed the grip from standard, added a catch22 and a full size dust cover. The scope is a vortex spitfire and every one that looks through comments on how good it is.

Good upgrades, love the catch 22. Tried the redimag thing but it's much more faffy I think. Good it you're an "upper swapper" but I'm not.
Re: Show us your rimfire's
I seem to recall attempts were made by Alexander Arms to get a uk 22 wmr version of the 17hmr going, feeding issues with the mags was what I was told, plus focus on other more attainable things.huntervixen wrote:Well, if I was going to design a bolt group for .22WMR I would keep it as simple as possible and go for roller delay blow back.

Not a swapper at the moment but never say never. Toying with the idea of an Eotech, bit expensive and overkill on a .22 but I have a friend that regularly visits the states so may ask him to pick one up for me.

Unless you want your friend to be a guest of the US Government if he brings it out in his hand luggage I would recommend these people : http://www.dharkon.com/index.php?cPath=52_68
Very good customer service, recommended by eotech as an alternative to using Viking who wanted over 800.
Eotech had some bad press but that's at extreme temperatures, for normal uk use its fine. I have a 552 on my ST22 and it's great.

Opps, didn't realise it was ITAR. These are the cheapest I've found outside the US, anyone know cheaper. http://www.vxtactical.co.uk/product-category/optics/
