I don't understand why you went for the benefits of an under folder stock then had the sight rail fitted which stops it from working You have left yourself With an uncomfortable stock that doesn't fold.

It's what Oleg had in stock (forgive the pun). I wanted the Bulgarian because of its reputation and it's milled receiver over the stamped Rumanian that he had. I also like the look of the underfolding stock as it is pinched from the MP40. He did not have a 7.62x39 in anything else, he had a conventional stock in .223 but l wanted the7.62x39. I havn't got a T34 and don't plan to do any parachuting anytime soon but l do want to fit a red dot sight on the back end so l wanted the rail fitted. I do like messing about with my rifles and fitting after market bits on them so eventually might put a Midwest Industries handguard on and CAA AR stock adapter. The only bits l probably won't fit is anything that gets woodworm. I may have considered a conventional stock if he had an Arsenal that had one but l would have put a Magpul Zhukov kit straight on it any way. My money, my gun, my way, simples.

Having managed to get my variation back in double quick time I trundled down the motorway to Oleg's and purchased a Bulgarian BARR (Bolt Action Repeating Rifle) M2F in 7.62 x 39 with a few extra bits and pieces. Now a proud owner of a near as dammit AK. Ordered a reel of black paracord off of Amazon to soften any bite from the under-folder stock (although a Plan B is available with a CAA stock adaptor to mount a buffer tube and AR style stock if required - practical if not traditional). A visit to Severnside in the next couple of weeks may lead to a Part 4 (apologies).

Nice. Do these use standard AK mags or do they need to be tweaked to fit? I have the Saiga M3 (also bought from Oleg)- AK mags have to be welded a little and filed a little to fit. Mine has the side rail fitted as standard - it's a side folding stock. I bought the scope mount but never got on with it - it was slightly off centre. I had placcy furniture but put on the wood to look AK74

Standard AK mags will fit but Saiga ones won't apparently. I have the polymer Arsenal ones and a metal drum mag all fit really well with no play in them whatsoever. Your Saiga takes a different mag not sure why. I want to get a couple of Magpul mags at some point and Fab Defense have started to make one which shows the rounds. Really pleased with it. Will be taking it out next weekend to see how she does.

The Saiga takes Saiga specific mags as it is sold as a "sporting" rifle for the civilian market and lacks the bullet feed ramp that milspec rifles have, the feed ramp on the Saiga is built into the front face of the mag whereas the military mags have a cutout that the leading edge of the feed ramp sits in.
Best bet with a Saiga is to fit a feed ramp and file a bit of the mag catch to allow milspec mags to lock up.....reason being is that milspec AK mags are much cheaper than Saiga specific mags, around £12 is about right for 30 round steel mags like Polish or Yugoslavian (Yugos are handy as they have BHO mag followers).

Feed ramps are easy to fit (done three now) and you only need to drill and tap the front trunnion in front of the breech.

Steel mags can be modded so you can see the rounds, cheaper than Magpul and cooler......I have a Taliban modded Bakelite that you can see the rounds in like the one in the pic below, picked up by an associate in a Kandahar Bazaar.

Here's a few places that stock AK mags......also worth looking worldwide on Ebay, sometimes you have to be inventive with your search ie "Russian trinket boxes" etc.Recently had three unissued blued steel Polish mags off the 'bay for £18 from Poland.You can also find them on Gunstar and most places that sell AK deacs will sell mags.

If you get stuck I have some contacts in "The Motherland" that could no doubt sort some out in exchange for "vodka tokens"

I've used Zib for loads of East German MPi parts and NVA kit. Highly recommend them.

Mags are cheap as chips at War and Peace if you can make it there too.
