I am working on the "make it up as they go along theory" that we see so often.......if they need to see the box in your home why would they not want to see it in a holiday home where you may well be not as alert as you are at home?

IMO it's none of their biz - rightly as you all say - if you take all reasonable precautions. However do do know what their like..damed if you do etc etc as I said.

I take the view that the only way they could possibly know is if some incident occurs - and if it occurs then having complied with the law will be sufficient for the purposes of a court appearance or insurance claim. Plod only generally need to see a cabinet if applying of a FAC or variation at the address firearms will normally be kept on a regular basis.

I would like to do some shooting on a private range near to where my inlaws live when i next visit,we stay usually for one or two nights.
My car is fitted with deadlocks,an alarm,a tracker and a bolted in Brattonsound safe.
My rifle has an easily removable barrel.
Do you think i am taking enough precaution if i was to lock the barrel and ammo in the car safe.the stock and action locked to a radiator in the house and keep the bolt on me.
And
put the gun in the car & the ammo in a cash box in the house - You have more than most peoples security at home! my cab is alarmed but not tracked! :)
Quality control of Scottish Ethanol. & RDX/HMX

& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me and is pretty much the same as I any many others shooters do when shooting away from home. It's also broadly in line with what it says in the guidance document.
