One question I do have is are you reloading for it as an extension to the hobby so to speak or to get more accuracy from it?.

For me very much an extension to the hobby and maybe slightly better accuracy (do not do competitions I plink), and to save money now ammo has gone up in price recently.

My first thought when I saw those black tips was AP!!!.

Nothing as glamorous or illegal, just did it to differentiate between 'youth loads' and full power fireball rusky boom loads in the box........only had a black sharpie but then realized when I had finished. An officer of the law is more than welcome to rub it off!

I reload as an extension to the hobby and to get more accurate ammo, there is cheap surplus out there which would be great if I could use it on our range. I have to comply with a 2150fps limit and 1400 ft/lbs so the rusky boom is out, reloading lets me make a load to suit my situation yet still also make full power rounds for larger ranges etc. Next project is a 25m cast load with Titegroup.

Also you can't beat the feeling of shooting with something you engineered yourself, have you sorted out your kit yet?

I haven't yet, to be honest I'm still sat on a load of milsurp and the x39 SKS is getting more use at the moment so milsurps bob-on for that.I do need to pull my finger out and get sorted so I can knock up some accurate stuff for the Dragunov.If things pan out as I hope I should have some funds freed up to get the reloading kit......and another Mosin hopefully.For the amount I'll reload I may just get one of those Lee Loader sets you referred to, they any good?.

Lee Loader's are VERY good - a full loading set up for the price of a die on it's own.
A couple of minor disadvantages when compared to the press, but well worth having.

Lee Loaders are great for the money, you could even take it to the range for a bit of on the go reloading. Kranks have them at the moment for £28 - http://www.henrykrank.com/index.phpmain ... ts_id=1724

Basically you use a plastic hammer to get the case into the die, then seat the primer on a spring loaded base, dip your powder charge and tip it in. Drop your bullet on top, use the seating tool and bobs your father's brother. If you sccop the same way, then loads are very consistent.

One held the accuracy record for many years and as it neck sizes only cases should last a while. Down sides are that it is slower than a press and the Mrs soon gerts tired of the banging.........last years Next catalogue works well to dampen noise......notice I said last years!

What we need now is for someone to import the 147 gr. bullet. Privi makes and markets them as components but I've never seen them for sale here.

I wonder if Krank would bring some in with the next order, I quite fancy trying the 123gr FMJ designed for the x39 which he has in stock.

Ideally I would need a 148-150gr bullet as the BDC on all my Soviet optics are calibrated for that weight of bullet, as I'd only be reloading for the Dragunov I'd be trying to replicate the 7n1 sniper ammunition.

If .311 bullets are suitable for your x54r rifles then how about these bullets from eGun in Germany? 100x 150gr PPU FMJ bullets, for €18,70 (not sure how much shipping is) which is around £14,50. Depending on shipping cost it might be worth buying a few hundred.
