Also the buyer could just phone the sellers local firearms office and confirm it.

only if its between 9-4, on days with a t in them and if you are wearing white socks. Or so it seems lately with my Dept.

out of interest, where would you stand if you bought a UK legal firearm, from someone it turns out, that had a hookey FAC?

are you committing a crime? Afterall, you are in legal possesion, I'd imagine they would be very interested in who you bought it from, but I can't see why you would be in hot water, especially if they had shown you what appeared to be a valid FAC during the transaction

If I was buying a firearm in such circumstances I'd drop an email to my FEO and ask them to run a NFLMS trace on the seller/firearm/FAC. Or come to a gentleman's agreement that we'd wait for the seller to have their FAC returned.

FYI, it's my gun he's on about (I bought it back before I had my fac, as kent were being very slow. So dave kindly held onto it (and I've seen his fac many a time before),
and if he doesn't still have a valid fac then the plod has an illegal arsenal to deal with ;)
For now we've left it, just means I've another reason to visit him and do some more shooting in the next month or so.
