Finnish M28/76 accuracy

#1 Post by meles meles »

Well, oomans. we're just back from a morning happily spent blatting away with our Suomi M28/76. As you may recall (you have been paying attention to previous threads, haven't you ?), Blighty of this parish helped us acquire this rifle a little while ago. It began life as an 1891 Mosin and was re-built on a Tula receiver in 1928, then converted to a designated marksman's / competition rifle in 1976. It has a nice birch stock and a heavier barrel than the standard Mosin.

We have since added a bipod and a Meopta 6x42 telescopic sight, making it ideal for 300 mard shooting. Today we fired 120 rounds of surplus 7.62x54R at 300 mards and were quite happy with our results. The weather was bright but cold, with a left to right wind blowing at about 5 miles per hour. 93 of the shots were in the 5 ring, including a goodly proportion of V bulls, the remaining 27 all fell in the 4 ring. We think that not bad at all with milsurp ammo. What sayest thou ?

Looks obvious from your first post in this thread.

I have many guns and they all shoot better than I do.

Nice 28/76.
Paw loading needed now as all the cheap fodder has gone away!

Look up my recent posts on the ammo reference books....
