I would see anyone standing up for their enshrined in law RIGHTS as an extremeist. A dangerous term to use because it soon gets pointed at others...In the USA it seems ANYONE who likes huinting / sjooting / fishing / guns (and / or the Bible) is an extremist - whereas those who demonstrate against them and want them and the police dead are just expressing freedom of speech

So to start off today Yardley has been having fun on Facebook after the recent BBC report, so first some Yardley Wisdom.

Complains we are at each others throats without any self awareness that he is a source of discord:

I took the opportunity to write a reasonable response to his Facebook post. I take it as a compliment to my argument that he could not muster a worthy reply and chose to delete it instead.

"To be fair you have played your own part in dividing and conquering. I speak, of course, of your own stance regarding legal ownership / shooting military style rifles, or rather, military lookalike rifles. One merely has to google your name to see just how much you have upset a large section of the shooting population for the truth of this.

These rifles are either .22 rim-fire rifles in semi-auto or single shot straight pull bolt action. People like to shoot them because well, they're fun and very accurate. And that surely is good enough reason to own them.

You have demonized owners as Rambo wannabes in print and on the Internet - annoying shooters and pandering to those who seek gun control or even banning our sport altogether.

Not a very sensible stance in my view.
Let us assume that these were removed from public ownership - another raid on our right to enjoy legally owned property and enforced compensation paid for by the taxpayer, what do you think the next step would be by the anti-shooting brigade?

I'm guessing the next logical step would be to continue the theme and move on to banning actual military rifles such as the much loved Lee Enfield, the Mosin Nagant, Mausers, and similar. Having accepted / tolerated the loss of black rifles we would be accused of being unreasonable in resisting this move. A precedent will already have been set. Then what do you think might be the next step? I think bolt action rifles used by the police - Remington, Savage, and similar.

Eventually, having progressed this far and emboldened by success perhaps the ant-shooting sports would then address something I actually find rather repulsive myself - shooting dumb animals for sport and posing by their sad carcasses. There's no need to defend your own love of killing things - we will not agree on this. Suffice to say my own feelings are that this is a matter for your own conscience - mine is clear and I have no desire to enforce my views on others regarding hunting sports - that would be divisive."
